JOB DETAILS:

To perform skilled track maintenance and repair operations, ensuring safe and efficient rail infrastructure for mining operations through proper installation, alignment, and upkeep of rail systems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Track Installation & Maintenance:
• Execute precision track laying of rails and concrete sleepers
• Conduct ballast screening, track lifting, and packing operations
• Perform rail cutting/drilling using specialized equipment

Preventive Maintenance:
• Replace defective bolts and fasteners on rail turnouts
• Apply proper lubrication to rail switches and moving components
• Identify and report track wear/deterioration

Safety Compliance:
• Adhere to all railway safety protocols and procedures
• Maintain clean and hazard-free work areas
• Participate in safety briefings and toolbox talks

Equipment Operation:
• Operate rail maintenance tools and machinery competently
• Perform basic equipment maintenance and inspections
• Maintain accurate equipment log sheets

Team Collaboration:
• Work effectively with track maintenance crews
• Support new team members through on-job training
• Communicate maintenance requirements to supervisors

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Certification:
✓ Grade 12 Certificate (ZAQA verified)
✓ Railway Engineering Certificate (advantageous)

Technical Skills:
• Proficiency in track laying techniques
• Ability to interpret basic track diagrams
• Competence in using rail maintenance tools

Experience:
• 2+ years in railway track maintenance
• Experience in industrial/mining rail systems

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to work in outdoor conditions
• Capability to handle heavy materials
• Good manual dexterity
