The Company Seeks the Services of Legal Officer x 1
Job Purpose
The Responsibilities of this role will include but not limited to the following:
Employment market reports
- Represent Mopani in all legal disputes.
- Under the direction of the Legal Counsel, deal with correspondence, collate information and write reports, communicate decisions to relevant company stakeholders.
- Contribute to meeting discussions, and when required advise members of the legal, governance, accounting and tax departments of the implications of proposed policies and legislation.
- Monitor changes in relevant legislation and the regulatory environment and take appropriate action.
- Under the direction of the Legal Counsel, liaise with external regulators and advisers, such as lawyers and auditors.
- Under the direction of the Legal Counsel, develop and oversee the systems that ensure the company complies with all applicable legislation, in addition to its legal and statutory requirements.
- Filing of Court documents on behalf of the Company.
- Writing reports to the Legal Counsel on legal outcomes.
- Preparing legal opinions and guidance on changes to pieces of legislation affecting the operations of the Company and similar compliance related matters.
- Collating and maintaining information/records on all legal matters affecting the company.
- Drive the Health, Safety and Environment Standards/Policy awareness and practice in the Department to ensure compliance and reduce all forms of accidents to zero.
- Adhering to all other assignments that are given that are lawful and fair.
To be considered for this position, the candidate should meet the following minimum requirements:
- Grade 12 Certificate or equivalent.
- Degree in Law from a recognized University.
- ‘Bar’ admission as a Legal Practitioner.
- Member of the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) with Valid Current Practicing Certificate.
- At least 1 year of experience in Legal role function in the Mining Industry, Corporate organizations or private practice.
- Demonstrate an understanding of Mining Law, Corporate Law, Tax Law, Environmental Law, Land Law, Employment law, Pension Law and other relevant legislation pertaining to the operations of the business.
- Excellent research, data collection, analysis ,good networking and presentation skills.
- Proven top-tier team-building and team-leading skills with exceptional managerial skills.
- High sense of time urgency, results oriented and innovative self-starter.
- High level of integrity and in possession of a flair for litigation and corporate advisory.
- Good report writing, general written presentation skills with attention to detail and should be computer literate.
- Ability to work under pressure without supervision and meet deadlines
- All academic qualifications should be verified and certified by Zambia Qualifications Authority
