Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced, proactive, and detail-oriented Logistics Specialist to handle our local logistics operations in Lusaka. In this role, the candidate will be the key execution owner for end-to-end supply chain activities, from managing material import/export processes and coordinating local deliveries to handling warehouse inventory and vendor relations. The ideal candidate should be a hands-on problem solver with strong data capabilities who ensures daily logistics run seamlessly.
Key Responsibilities
1. Import & Export Operations
- Coordinate and execute day-to-day cargo import and export procedures in full compliance with Zambian customs regulations (ZRA).
- Act as the primary liaison with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and clearing agents to expedite the clearance of goods.
- Prepare, verify, and track all required shipping and customs documentation (e.g., Bills of Lading, Commercial Invoices, Packing Lists, import permits).
2. Cargo Delivery & Local Distribution
- Plan, schedule, and track local cargo deliveries to ensure timely and cost-effective distribution.
- Coordinate directly with transport providers and drivers to monitor shipments from dispatch to final delivery.
- Address and resolve any transit delays, delivery discrepancies, or cargo damage issues immediately.
3. Supplier & Vendor Management
- Maintain relationships with logistics service providers, carriers, and clearing agents.
- Monitor vendor performance to ensure they meet delivery timelines and service standards.
- Assist in reviewing logistics quotes and verifying supplier invoices against agreed rates.
4. Warehouse Management
- Physically and systematically manage daily warehouse tasks, including receiving, sorting, inventory counting, and dispatch.
- Maintain organized inventory storage, ensuring stock accuracy and optimal space utilization.
- Ensure the warehouse environment remains safe, clean, and secure.
5. Data Summaries & Daily Reports
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date logs of all logistics activities, shipments, and inventory levels.
- Generate and submit comprehensive daily operational reports and inventory summaries to management.
- Track key logistics metrics to help identify areas for cost savings or process improvements.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Experience:
- Minimum of 5+ years of hands-on experience in logistics, freight forwarding, customs clearance, or supply chain operations in Zambia.
- Systems Expertise: Direct, practical experience operating a Warehouse Management System (WMS) or logistics modules within an ERP system.
- Software Proficiency: Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel for tracking data, managing logs, and generating daily reports).
- Education: Diploma or Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Trade, or a related field.
- Knowledge: Solid understanding of Zambian customs clearance processes, documentation requirements, and local transport infrastructure.
- Soft Skills: Excellent organizational skills, strong communication, and the ability to work independently under tight deadlines.
