MACHINIST

1. Job Description

The Machinist will be responsible for operating and maintaining workshop machine tools to manufacture, repair, and finish engineering components in accordance with technical drawings, specifications, and required quality standards. The successful candidate will support the company’s hydraulic and mechanical engineering operations by delivering accurate, safe, and timely machining work.

2. Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Operate and set up manual lathes, milling machines, drilling machines, grinding machines, and other workshop machinery.
• Perform turning, milling, drilling, boring, threading, and other machining operations as required.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, sketches, and machining specifications.
• Manufacture, repair, and modify hydraulic components, shafts, bushes, pins, sleeves, and other mechanical parts.
• Take accurate measurements using vernier calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and other precision measuring instruments.
• Carry out internal and external threading, including metric and imperial threads, where applicable.
• Select appropriate cutting tools, speeds, feeds, and machining techniques according to material and job requirements.
• Inspect machined components to ensure dimensional accuracy and compliance with quality specifications.

3. Qualifications and Experience Required

• Grade 12 School Certificate.
• Craft Certificate in Machining, Fitting and Turning, Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized technical training institution.
• A minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant practical experience as a Machinist, preferably in a hydraulic engineering, mechanical workshop, mining, or related industrial environment.
• Proven experience in operating manual lathes, milling machines, drilling machines, and other conventional workshop equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.

4. Added Advantage

Applicants possessing the following additional skills and experience will have an added advantage:

• Experience in Milling (Miller) operations, including the ability to set up and operate milling machines to produce accurate components.
• Experience as a Final Inspector, with knowledge of dimensional inspection, quality control, and verification of finished components against engineering drawings and specifications.
• Experience in hydraulic cylinder repair, hydraulic component manufacturing, and mechanical engineering workshop operations.
