David Livingstone Lodge, located in the scenic Livingstone region of Southern Zambia, is seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to oversee all maintenance operations and ensure the smooth functioning of our luxury hospitality facilities. This full-time opportunity offers a chance to lead a dedicated team in maintaining high standards across lodge infrastructure, utilities, and equipment.

Responsibilities or duties

As the Maintenance Manager, you will play a crucial role in managing daily maintenance activities and preserving the quality of our lodge environment. Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and coordinating daily maintenance tasks to ensure timely and effective completion.
  • Developing, implementing, and monitoring preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime.
  • Preparing detailed weekly and monthly reports on maintenance progress and asset conditions.
  • Diagnosing faults and supervising repairs across mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building systems.
  • Managing the operation and upkeep of generators, power equipment, and essential utilities.
  • Ensuring optimal performance of plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, water systems, and general building services.
  • Maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities, tools, materials, and critical spare parts inventory.
  • Enforcing strict compliance with health, safety, fire, and environmental regulations throughout the property.
  • Supervising, training, scheduling, and mentoring maintenance staff and coordinating external contractors as needed.
  • Responding promptly to emergencies, breakdowns, and urgent maintenance issues affecting guests.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

Successful candidates for this role will demonstrate the following qualifications and experience:

  • A diploma, degree, or trade qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC, Plumbing, Building Services, or a related discipline.
  • Between 5 to 8 years of practical maintenance experience within a lodge, hotel, resort, or comparable hospitality setting.
  • Proven supervisory or management experience leading maintenance teams.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of generators, power systems, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, boats, and general building maintenance.
  • Strong troubleshooting abilities combined with leadership, planning, budgeting, and recordkeeping skills.
  • Ability to remain composed and effective under pressure, particularly when addressing emergencies.
