PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

This role encompasses for the upkeep and presentation of the OlympAfrica Centre’s facilities, performing all minor maintenance, assisting with the coordination of specialized maintenance, and coordinating minor building and landscaping projects. The Maintenance Officer will act as the caretaker for the sports grounds, ensuring they are properly prepared, clean, safe and in good condition for activities and events.

In this role, the Maintenance Officer should be able to:

  • Abide by the Staff Code of Conduct
  • Be familiar with and follow the Centre’s policies and procedures
  • Carry out the responsibilities to the best of their ability and in a safe manner as outlined in the OlympAfrica Health and Safety Policy and associated procedures
  • Have strong time management skills.
  • Executive routine maintenance jobs seamlessly.
  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills.
  • Have an Eye for detail.
  • Perform the routine jobs with little or no supervision
  • A  strong team player.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONS

  • High school certificate or better
  • 3 years proven experience
  • Proven ability to work unsupervised, meet deadlines and set priorities.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and confidentiality appropriately.
  • Knowledge on safe use of a range of garden and related maintenance tools.
  • Proactive mindset and ability to implement routines to ensure ongoing upkeep of facilities
  • Good knowledge of maintenance and storage of motorized equipment.
    Use of log books.
  • Workplace Health and Safety, particularly requirements of using hazardous items in the fields, equipment, and chemicals.
  • Experience in community and sports-related activities

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES; The role is predominantly a maintenance/caretaker position to manage grounds and amenities. The Maintenance Officer is expected to contribute to the strengthening of the following areas:

1. Strengthening Olympafrica Centre’s Identity

  • Support and contribute to the growth of a strong sports community through personal example and professional workmanship.
  • Support the Olympafrica’s ethos

2. Enhancing a conducive environment

  • Proactively maintain Olympafrica Centre to the highest standard of safety and presentation including tasks such as basic maintenance of equipment, facilities and grounds (including painting and mowing).
  • Organize and perform small construction improvement projects as directed (eg. minor landscaping, paths, garden walls, basic carpentry and concrete work as required)
  • Obtaining quotes from suppliers / contractors and ensuring contractor work is satisfactorily completed.
  • Assist and arrange outside contractors including ensuring appropriate induction and registration
  • Assist and coordinate maintenance, both reactive and proactive, for all facilities, fields and equipment.
  • Ensure appropriate registration and maintenance of all Olympafrica Centre’s equipment and machinery.
  • Co-ordinate all scheduled compliance works (eg. tag and test of equipment, emergency lighting)
  • Conduct inspections and risk assessments for facilities, fields and equipment as required.
  • Maintain records for hazardous and non-hazardous obstacles for the play fields and ensure safe use and storage.
  • Assist to conduct inspections of the workplace to help discover unsafe or unsatisfactory conditions and practices, and ensure the observance of workplace health and safety standards.
  • Assist with the running of events as required, particularly with the setup and pack-down of equipment as directed by the Olympafrica Programmes Officer.

3. Community Engagement

  • Foster effective friendship with children, staff, parents, and members of the wider community.
  • Act professionally at all times in dealing with children, peers, members of the NOCZ board members and members of the community.
  • Actively support the co-curricular program of the Centre.

4. Occupational Health

  • Know and adhere to the Olympafrica Centre’s policies and procedures.
  • Have an awareness of personal health and well-being for themselves, their colleagues and children.
  • Adhere to the workplace health and safety requirements of the position.
    Basic use of computers to access online training and meetings.
