Job Description

Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit a high-caliber Metallurgical and Technical Superintendent to join our Process leadership team. We are in search of individuals who can champion Barrick’s DNA by:

Reporting to the Assistant Process Manager, you will be responsible for monitoring plant operational performance and to ensure achievement of optimum and cost-effective metallurgical performance.

Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Ensure all personnel, visitors and contractors comply with site and contractual HSE requirements and hold people accountable for adherence
  • Develop and promote a strong safety culture within the team of direct reports.
  • Drive and influence proactive safety behaviors within workgroups through visible leadership.
  • Ensure all metallurgical SOP/SWP are reviewed and shared with the team members.
  • Provides technical support and guidance to process operations to ensure optimum metallurgical performance of the plant using data analysis, metallurgical reporting, evaluating metallurgical performance of circuits, equipment and existing systems.
  • Direct the activities of the Metallurgy team, and liaise with operations and maintenance, to ensure the achievement optimum and cost-effective metallurgical performance.
  • Provide ongoing technical input to the development and implementation of Process Plant operations strategies, budgets and plans, to support production objectives and optimize financial results for process plant.
  • Monitor daily metallurgical performance and analyze and report plant operating results and cost in terms of actual against forecast; and provide technical support and develop action plans to rectify any unfavorable variances in a timely manner.
  • Develop and implement optimization and cost reduction strategies on consumables.
  • To initiate, support and enforce HSE standards, procedures and safe work behaviors.
  • To achieve set target mill availability, runtime, throughput, recovery, Copper production and cost
  • Identify improvement opportunities and focus on research and development and test work programs for current and future process improvements.
  • Provide ongoing training, mentoring and employee performance management, to develop and maintain a safe, competent and results orientated Metallurgical team, and to ensure that employees gain new skills and achieve their full potential.
  • Management of staff to achieve objectives on-time and on-budget and take appropriate action to rectify any substandard performance or behavior.
  • Ensure quality and accuracy of process plant projects and GeoMet test work program.

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Full Grade 12 School Certificate
  • Minimum of Degree in Metallurgy or Mineral Processing or Chemical Engineering.
  • Six (6) years’ significant experience in large copper concentrators with skills in mineral processing operations.
  • Strong knowledge of process KPI, recoveries, and cost optimization with CAPEX/OPEX control experience.
  • Excellent, analytical, detailed oriented and strong communication skills.
  • 3+ years of experience in supervisory or managerial role.
  • Demonstrate good Leadership in safety culture and behavioral safety.
  • Must be a member of Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ).
  • Must have a current Zambian Driver’s license.
