Job description
Precisely measuring and mapping mining areas, using advanced equipment like GPS and drones, to ensure safety and optimal operations. Key responsibilities shall include, but not limited to, the following;
1. Conducting surveys of underground and surface areas to determine locations, sizes, and shapes of workings.
- Creating and maintaining accurate, up-to-date statutory plans and records, including maps of excavations, infrastructure, and boundaries.
- Providing data to assist with mine design, set out boundaries for operations, and ensure development follows the plan.
- Calculating ore volumes and tonnages for reporting and inventory management, and verifying that levels and slopes are built correctly.
- Monitoring the stability of mine structures, identifying hazards, and ensuring all operations comply with safety and environmental regulations.
Key skills and qualifications
- Proficiency with advanced surveying equipment, such as total stations, GPS, and drones.
- Experience with relevant software packages, like GIS and specific surveying software.
- Familiarity with mining and surveying regulations and the ability to prepare statutory reports.
- Collaboration and communication skills to work with mining engineers, geologists, and other staff.
- A holder of a Bachelor of Engineering in Geomatics Engineering. A Diploma in Mine Survey with appreciable experience in a mining environment will be considered.
