Momentum Mining Services Limited is seeking the services of an experienced and qualified Mining Engineer to join its operations in Solwezi. This is a senior technical role responsible for planning, coordinating, and optimizing mining activities to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective production. The ideal candidate should possess strong technical expertise in open-pit mining operations and be capable of delivering projects in accordance with client requirements, industry best practices, and statutory safety standards.

Key responsibilities.

Mine Planning and Production

  • Develop and implement short, medium, and long-term mine plans to achieve production targets.
  • Monitor daily mining activities to ensure adherence to approved mine designs and production schedules.
  • Optimize mining methods, equipment utilization, and operational efficiency to maximize productivity while minimizing costs.
  • Ensure compliance with approved pit designs, haul road standards, and mining sequences.

Operational Management

  • Coordinate daily mining operations with supervisors, contractors, and equipment operators to ensure efficient execution of work plans.
  • Monitor equipment performance and recommend operational improvements to enhance productivity.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to site personnel on mining methods and best practices.
  • Assist in forecasting production requirements and resource allocation.

Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE)

  • Promote and enforce compliance with all company, client, and statutory health, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Investigate operational incidents and implement corrective and preventive measures.
  • Foster a strong safety culture through continuous engagement and adherence to safe work practices.

Technical Support and Compliance

  • Prepare and review mine designs, drilling and blasting plans, production reports, and technical documentation.
  • Ensure mining activities comply with regulatory requirements, client specifications, and company standards.
  • Analyse production data and recommend improvements to enhance operational performance.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at increasing operational efficiency and reducing costs.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as the technical liaison between the Company and the Client on mining-related matters.
  • Work closely with survey, geology, maintenance, and operations teams to ensure alignment of mining activities.
  • Participate in client meetings and provide technical updates on project performance and operational progress.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Prepare accurate daily, weekly, and monthly production and operational reports.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of production performance, equipment utilization, and operational metrics.
  • Review and interpret mine plans, survey information, and technical drawings to guide site execution.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering.
  • Registered with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ).
  • A minimum of five (5) years' relevant experience with a major mining contractor in an open-pit mining environment.
  • Sound knowledge of mine planning software and mining engineering principles.
