LICS is a leading independent Pre-Primary, Primary, and Secondary school situated in the leafy suburb of Roma in Lusaka. The school is a proud member of CIS, AISA, and ISAZ.

We are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity and are seeking a suitably qualified individual to join the LICS community as a Music Teacher, effective 1st August 2026.

1.    Requirements and Qualities

  • At least 3 years of experience teaching within a CAIE school or other internationally recognized academic programme
  • Demonstrable knowledge of music curriculum and the ability to implement it
  • Ability to interact collaboratively with students, colleagues, parents, and administration
  • Excellent oral and written skills
  • Confident in leading a classroom of students with developed classroom management skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Able to thrive working in a team environment and being an enthusiastic and proactive team member

2.    Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Music and PGCE from an accredited University
  • Excellent competency in one or more musical instruments
  • Excellent subject and/or specialist knowledge
  • Understanding and integration of technology in teaching.

3.    Key Responsibilities

3.1    Teaching and Learning

  • Deliver class-based and individual music instruction across Primary and Secondary levels using the Cambridge Curriculum
  • Plan and prepare engaging and inspirational lessons tailored to individual student needs and examination syllabi
  • Teach music theory, aural skills, and practical techniques, and prepare and enter pupils for music examinations
  • Identify, select, and acquire appropriate teaching materials and resources
  • Motivate pupils, encourage progress, and maintain strong communication with academic staff and parents
  • Ensure up-to-date knowledge of examination requirements and standards
  • Assess pupils’ abilities, provide effective feedback, and write detailed academic reports.

3.2    Leading School-Specific Performances

  • Collaborate with principals and staff to develop creative ideas for school productions
  • Coordinate rehearsal schedules and student involvement with class teachers and the art director
  • Liaise with external staff on band collaborations for performances when required
  • Lead musical direction for Primary musical productions and support musical direction at Secondary level.

3.3    Afternoon Activities

  • Lead and inspire peripatetic music teachers in maintaining high standards for individual lessons
  • Maintain and update student profiles and involve administration or the arts academy director when necessary
  • Organise and lead high-quality afternoon group activities such as Junior Choir, Music Theory, Music for Fun, and Marimbas, ensuring age-appropriate delivery.

3.4    Other Responsibilities

  • Attend and lead activities or ensembles at the annual Music Camp and Secondary Musical Camp
  • Prepare termly academic reports for assigned classes
  • Attend relevant professional development sessions
  • Perform weekly late-gate lock-up duties at the Arts Academy.
