Eastern Tropical Fruit Company Limited (ETF) is jointly owned by Zambia Fruit Company and Vitaplus Foods Limited, under the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC). The Company operates a hybrid fruit and vegetable processing plant located in Katete District, Eastern Province of Zambia.
Role Overview:
The Processing Operator is responsible for the hands-on operation of machinery and equipment used to process fruits and vegetables into final products. This role ensures that all processing activities are carried out according to the production plan, quality standards, and safety procedures.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
Machine Operation:
- Operate and monitor processing equipment such as crushers, pulpers, extractors, and pasteurizers.
- Adjust machine settings to ensure optimal performance and product quality.
- Monitor temperatures, pressures, and flow rates during the processing cycle.
Production and Quality Control:
- Follow production schedules and instructions from the Production Supervisor.
- Load raw materials into machines and monitor the processing of fruits and vegetables.
- Conduct basic quality checks on processed materials, such as pH and brix levels.
- Identify and report any product quality issues or deviations to the supervisor.
Maintenance and Cleaning:
- Perform routine cleaning and sanitation of all processing equipment and work areas.
- Conduct basic maintenance checks on machinery and report any faults or malfunctions.
- Ensure the work area is kept clean, organized, and free of hazards.
Safety Compliance:
- Adhere to all health and safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Follow all food safety and hygiene regulations.
- Report all accidents, incidents, and near-misses immediately to the supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma in Food Science, Food Processing, Production Management, or related field.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a manufacturing or food processing environment.
- Knowledge of food safety and quality standards such as HACCP and ISO 22000.
- Membership with a recognized professional regulatory body
- Proven ability to operate and maintain industrial machinery.
