Job Description
Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit a highly committed Individual for the position of Project Exploration Geologist to join the Exploration Department. We are in search of an individual who can champion Barrick’s DNA by:

Reporting to the Exploration Manager, you will be responsible for desktop and field-based target evaluations through field-based activities. To rank, design and implement fit for purpose exploration programmes, resulting in discovery of economically viable copper deposits that will positively impact Barrick’s growth.
Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
- Provide a strong contribution to Barrick’s safety culture and programmes while encouraging and ensuring others do the same.
- Communicating Honestly, Transparently, and Acting with Integrity.
- Collaborate with the Exploration team to plan, supervise and execute exploration field-activities, including drilling, trenching, mapping, geophysics and geochemistry.
- Compile, validate and analyse data to generate, develop and assess exploration targets.
- Take ownership of projects, drive exploration and geological best practice in our work programmes to deliver robust and high-quality data and collaborate with the team to generate geological targets.
- Develop target-scale geological models demonstrating an understanding of lithology, stratigraphy, structure, alteration, and mineralisation.
- Support Barrick’s growth strategy by collaboration and contribution to competitor project due diligence reviews, including all technical considerations.
- Collaborate on multi-disciplinary projects with contribution from our mineral resource management, mining, social and legal departments.
- Contribute to weekly, monthly, quality reporting to senior management, in the form of figures and tables, presentations and reports.
- Implementation of Standard Operating procedures.
- Monitor QA/QC procedures and ensure the integrity of all project datasets.
- Be prepared to travel to field-offices and project areas on a rotational basis.
- Oversee adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
- Maintain and develop relationships with stakeholders in LMC’s mining activities, consistent with Barricks’s community Relations Policies
- Oversee adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:
- Full Grade Twelve (12) School Certificate
- Bachelors Degree in Geology/Geoscience from a recognized intuition.
- Minimum four (5) years’ experience in in greenfield / brownfield exploration, with exposure to sedimentary hosted copper deposits of the Central African Copperbelt viewed favorably.
- Must be a member of professional Geoscience organization.
- Must be open to training and professional development
- Demonstrated proficiency in GIS and 3D geological modelling software. Experience with ArcGIS, Leapfrog Geo, Micromine, ioGAS is considered an asset.
- Firm understanding and recognition of mineralization models and geological processes.
- Advanced Degree (MSc/PHD) will be added an added advantage
- Geoscientific (geological, geochemical, geophysical) data integration and interpretive skills are an added advantage.
- Exposure to world-class exploration districts and Tier 1 ore bodies, would be an added advantage.
