JOB DETAILS:
Anthu Omwe Health Centre is a health facility that offers free medical services to rural communities in the Mungule Chiefdom of Chibombo District of Central Province. It is an initiative of The Dream Life Two Sixty, a non-profit organization whose mandate is to improve the quality of life of underprivileged and underserved communities in Zambia.
Duration: 1 Year (Renewable based on performance)

Responsibilities: The postholder will work under the supervision of the Senior Nursing Officer and be expected to work independently. Excellent communication and continued maintenance of relationships with all staff in the organization, customers, and visitors are needed.

Key Duties:
• Doing correct written and admission procedures.
• Conducting observations and routine tests.
• Providing individual nursing care to all critically ill patients who visit the health facility.
• Adhering to set medical standards and procedures.
• Providing comfortable clinic beds and clean linen.
• Informing the Senior Nursing Officer, about the condition of patients.
• Writing and submitting informative and accurate reports on patients.
• Undertake training to improve the personal knowledge, skills, attitude, and orientation of others or subordinates.
• Ensure that standard operating policies and procedures are followed with regard to nursing care that is in keeping with the Zambian nursing scope of practice.
• Providing nursing care that is respectful, ethical, compassionate, competent, caring, and professional at all times.
• Ensure that individual nursing knowledge and practice are up-to-date to perform required duties effectively.
• Must be accessible at all times and be available for shift work.
• Maintain patient dignity and confidentiality at all times and make ethical decisions related to consent and confidentiality.
• Maintain a hygienic and safe work environment by the AOHC healthcare standards and all associated policies and procedures.
• Perform physical examinations; check blood pressure, pulse, temperature, weight checks, and health histories for all new patients.
• Maintain proper and legible nursing documentation and charting in keeping with best practice guidelines and AOHC healthcare standards.
• Maintain effective written and oral handover procedures of patients to other nurses during handover.
• Develop a nursing diagnosis following history or physical examination, and document findings. Create nursing care plans based on nursing diagnosis to ensure individualized care.
• Attend clinic meetings and mandatory in-house training, as required.
Check and administer medications (oral or injectable), and observe for any adverse reactions. Document all procedures done.
• Review medication history and current orders. Ensure any change in medication is properly recorded in the patient’s medication chart.
• Check medical/clinical equipment as instructed and present documented reports to the unit leader where equipment needs to be repaired or replaced.
• Administer medications (oral, IV, injections, DDA’s), and do wound care, using aseptic technique.
• Ensure that all completed patient documentation is securely entered into the patient’s medical file; this includes but is not limited to, consent forms, care plans, nursing/consultation notes, fluid balance sheets, discharge summaries, medication charts, laboratory results, etc.
• Promote good health through patient education and document in the health information education and communication register.
• Continuously demonstrate adherence to the Infection Control Policy (IPC), especially in maintaining proper handwashing techniques.
• Use and maintain correct personal protective equipment (PPE) such as eye protection, gown, and gloves where appropriate.
Perform any other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience:
• Minimum of grade Twelve (12) School Certificate with 5 credits in English, Maths, Sciences, and any other subjects.
• Diploma in Nursing/Midwifery (RNM).
Minimum of Ten (10) years of work experience in a similar capacity with traceable references.
• Computer Literacy.
• A certificate in psychosocial counselling and HIV/AIDS management will be an added advantage.
• Must be registered and licensed with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Zambia (NMCZ).
• Knowledge and practical skills in General Nursing and Midwifery are a prerequisite.
Strong interpersonal skills.
