National Museums Board (NMB)

National Museums Board (NMB) is a Statutory Board under the Ministry of Tourism whose mandate is to establish, develop and manage dynamic and sustainable national museums for the preservation and interpretation of Movable heritage for the benefit of the present and future generation.

2. RELIEF ASSISTANT KEEPER – ORNITHOLOGY (1)

Type of Employment – Two (2) Years Contract of Service

Location – Livingstone Museum, Livingstone

Job Purpose

To assist and facilitate planning for conducting of Ornithology research, collection acquisitions, collection documentation, curatorial services, exhibition mounting, inventory, publication and de-accessioning in order to enhance preservation and dissemination of knowledge of Zambia’s Avian fauna.

Main Duties

  • Facilitating research, collections acquisition, collection documentation, curatorial services, mounting of exhibitions, publications and storage of collections.
  • Facilitating timely preliminary acquisition of relevant new collections for study and preservation for posterity.
  • Mounting periodically exhibitions for public enjoyment, awareness and education.
  • Facilitates efficient curation of collections, monitoring of environmental conditions and care of collections for posterity.
  • Facilitating accurate documentation in compliance to acceptable documentation system for easy retrieval, identification, and security of collections.
  • Facilitating undertaking of inventory of collections and de-accessing process of objects/specimen that are in bad condition.
  • Undertaking regular inspection of collections in the storerooms and galleries
  • Undertaking research publications and public educational presentations

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Grade 12 School Certificate or its equivalent with at least five (5) credits, including English
  • BSc in Wildlife Management, Ecology, Biology, Natural Resources Management and relevant field

Knowledge and Skills

  • Analytical skills;
  • Computer literacy;
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Professional with strong interpersonal skills.
