The Safety Advisor supports the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies and procedures on-site. The role works closely with supervisors, project teams, and management to promote a proactive safety culture, ensuring compliance with Zambian legislation, client HSE requirements, and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities

Support the implementation and ongoing management of the Project Health & Safety Management Plan
Monitor compliance with Zambian Occupational Health and Safety Act and client safety procedures
Conduct daily toolbox talks, pre-task risk assessments, and safety briefings with teams
Perform regular site inspections, audits, and safety observations to ensure compliance
Oversee high-risk activities, including electrical works, working at heights, lifting operations, and confined space entry
Ensure proper use and documentation of Permit-to-Work systems
Identify unsafe acts or conditions and recommend corrective actions
Participate in incident/accident investigations, supporting root cause analysis and corrective measures
Maintain safety records, including induction registers, inspection reports, and risk assessments
Prepare and submit safety statistics and reports to the Safety Manager for HSE reporting
Support emergency response planning, drills, and preparedness initiatives
Advise management and teams on proactive safety measures and continuous improvement

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

Education & Certification:

Grade 12 School Certificate
Valid Safety Training Certification from an accredited institution (e.g., NEBOSH, SAMTRAC, NOSA)
First Aid and Fire Safety certification (mandatory)
Experience:

Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a safety advisory or officer role, preferably in mining, construction, or heavy industrial projects
Experience in Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) environments is an advantage
Familiarity with ISO 45001, SANS 10085, and other international HSE standards

Skills & Competencies

Strong knowledge of Zambian and international occupational safety legislation and best practices
Excellent communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills to influence safe behaviors
Ability to identify hazards, recommend corrective actions, and drive compliance
Competency in report writing, record keeping, and Microsoft Office applications
High attention to detail with a proactive and solution-oriented safety mindset

Working Conditions

Site-based role in a remote mining environment
May require extended hours or shift work based on project demands
Full PPE compliance and adherence to all HSE policies is mandatory
