Overview
Our client in the Agricultural sector is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Seed Analyst to join our client's innovative Agricultural Solutions team. The Seed Analyst will perform thorough assessments of seed quality, including germination, purity, and physiological characteristics, ensuring compliance with industry standards. This position is critical in supporting product quality and reliability for our agricultural clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive seed testing to evaluate attributes such as germination rate, purity, moisture content, and physical quality.
- Document and analyze testing results, providing clear and concise reports to stakeholders.
- Maintain and operate laboratory equipment, ensuring accurate calibration and functionality.
- Adhere to Good Laboratory Practices and relevant quality management systems in all testing procedures.
- Collaborate with team members to implement improvements in testing methodologies and laboratory processes.
- Keep up to date with industry standards and advancements in seed analysis techniques.
- Support compliance with seed certification requirements and assist in the preparation of certification documents.
- Manage and maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and consumables.
- Train and supervise junior staff or assistant analysts in seed testing procedures.
- Participate in agricultural field trials to assess seed performance under different growing conditions.
- Undertaking seed sampling using ISTA methods
- Moisture content determination of submitted seed samples.
- Physical purity analysis - separating, analysing and classifying the different components of the seed working sample.
- Evaluation of planted seed samples for vigour and germination capacity in accordance with ISTA rules and preservation of laboratory retention samples.
- Planning and coordination of the said activities as guided by the Senior Seed Analyst.
- ISO Standard Compliance - ensuring quality management systems are effectively implemented, reviewed and continuously improved in the QA Department.
Requirements
- Must have Diploma in Agriculture; A Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Plant Science, or a related field an added advantage
- Certification as a Seed Analyst is highly preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in seed testing or a similar role.
- Membership with the Agriculture Institute of Zambia (AIZ).
- Strong understanding of seed physiology and agronomy principles.
- Proficient in laboratory techniques and equipment relevant to seed analysis.
- Knowledge of quality management systems (ISO) and Seed Certification processes.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and data management software.
