Job Overview
The position of Senior Lecturer in Law are critical to the academic leadership within the Faculty of Law. The role encompasses facilitating advanced teaching methodologies, orchestrating research initiatives, and enhancing the faculty’s academic framework. Responsibilities include initiating and supervising scholarly research projects, mentoring faculty and students, and actively contributing to the university's mission in legal education and scholarly discourse.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIs)
Teaching & Supervision, Research & Publication, and Institutional Service & Community Engagement.
Responsibilities or duties
Provide strategic academic leadership within the Faculty of Law to enhance pedagogical effectiveness and research output.
Deliver comprehensive undergraduate and postgraduate law courses, ensuring rigorous academic standards.
Supervise and guide undergraduate and postgraduate research, fostering critical inquiry and scholarly development.
Initiate and lead innovative research projects, contributing to the body of legal knowledge through publication in peer-reviewed journals.
Mentor and develop junior faculty members, as well as postgraduate and undergraduate students, to cultivate a supportive academic environment.
Engage in curriculum development and program evaluation processes to ensure alignment with current legal developments and quality assurance standards.
Actively contribute to legal aid initiatives, community legal education programs, and foster strategic partnerships with the judiciary, Bar associations, and other legal institutions.
Participate in Faculty and University committees to shape policy and governance within the academic context.
Undertake additional responsibilities as designated by the Faculty and University, in line with institutional goals and priorities.
Organize academic conferences.
Secure funding for research.
Participate in all quality assurance and enhancement efforts of the University.
Perform any other duties commensurate with the position as may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications or requirements
An earned PhD degree in Law from an accredited university.
Master’s Degree in Law from an accredited university.
Bachelor’s Degree in Law from an accredited university.
Membership in relevant professional associations.
A Teaching Methodology qualification.
A certificate from the Zambia Institute of Advanced Legal Education (ZIALE) will be an added advantage
Experience needed
At least eight (8) years of full-time teaching experience at University level.
A track record of publications in internationally peer-reviewed journals.
Robust leadership and mentorship capabilities.
Demonstrable evidence of public or community service.
Demonstrable track record of supervising postgraduate students.
Demonstrable understanding of information technologies including Artificial Intelligence
