Job Purpose

The Senior Manager: Financial Institutions supports the Group Head: Trade & Financial Institutions in executing the Group’s Financial Institutions (FI) strategy across all operating markets.

The role focuses on managing and strengthening correspondent banking relationships, supporting development finance institution (DFI) partnerships, and enhancing access to international banking networks. It plays a key role in supporting the growth of cross-border capabilities and ensuring effective coordination of FI activities across the Group.

The role is based in Lusaka and works closely with country teams and Group functions.

Reporting Line

  • Reports to: Group Head – Trade & Financial Institutions
  • Location: Lusaka, Zambia

Key Responsibilities:

1. Financial Institutions Strategy Support

  • Support the implementation of the Group FI strategy across subsidiaries
  • Identify opportunities to expand correspondent banking and DFI partnerships
  • Contribute to initiatives that strengthen the Group’s international banking network

2. Correspondent Banking Relationships

  • Support the management of relationships with:
    • Global correspondent banks
    • Regional banking partners
    • Multilateral institutions
  • Assist with the coordination of:
    • Credit line renewals
    • Risk participation agreements
    • Trade and funding facilities

3. DFI & Funding Coordination

  • Support engagement with DFIs and development partners
  • Assist in coordinating access to:
    • Trade finance lines
    • Funding programmes
    • Risk-sharing facilities
  • Work with country teams to support effective utilisation of these facilities

4. Group Coordination & Country Support

  • Act as a point of coordination between Group and country teams on FI-related matters
  • Support countries in aligning their requirements with available FI lines and partnerships
  • Preparation of materials for key FI engagements and initiatives

5. Risk, Compliance & Governance

  • Support adherence to:
    • Sanctions requirements
    • AML/CFT standards
    • Counterparty and country risk policies
  • Assist in monitoring FI exposures and utilisation levels

6. Performance Monitoring & Reporting

  • Support tracking and reporting of:
    • Correspondent banking lines and utilisation
    • DFI facilities and deployment
  • Contribute to the development of dashboards and management reports

7. Stakeholder Engagement

  • Support the Group Head in preparing for:
    • External FI engagements
    • Internal governance forums
    • Collaboration with countries and FCSSL on FI relationships
  • Participate in selected meetings with FI partners as required

Technical Skills & Competence:

8–12 years’ banking experience

Experience in:

  • Financial Institutions / Correspondent Banking
  • Exposure to regional or multi-country banking environments advantageous

Qualifications and Requirements:

Degree in Finance, Economics, Banking, or related field

  • Support the implementation of the Group FI strategy across subsidiaries
  • Identify opportunities to expand correspondent banking and DFI partnerships
  • Contribute to initiatives that strengthen the Group’s international banking network
  • Support the management of relationships with Global correspondent banks, Regional banking partners, and Multilateral institutions
