JOB DETAILS:

To design, optimize, and maintain high-performance database systems across on-premise and cloud environments, ensuring data integrity, security, and availability to support business intelligence and operational decision-making.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Database Management & Optimization:
• Design and implement high-availability solutions using SQL Server Always-on Clustering
• Perform advanced performance tuning through query optimization and indexing strategies
• Automate routine maintenance tasks including backups, log management, and integrity checks

Cloud Infrastructure:
• Manage Azure-based database solutions (Azure SQL, Managed Instances)
• Implement cost optimization strategies for cloud database services
• Configure and maintain hybrid cloud/on-premise database architectures

Business Intelligence Support:
• Develop and maintain SSRS reports and Power BI data models
• Support analytics teams with complex data extraction and transformation
• Design dimensional models for enterprise data warehousing

Security & Compliance:
• Implement robust access controls and encryption standards
• Ensure compliance with data protection regulations
• Develop and test disaster recovery plans (RPO/RTO objectives)

Automation & Innovation:
• Script administrative tasks using T-SQL and Python
• Implement monitoring solutions for proactive issue detection
• Research and recommend emerging database technologies

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Certification:
✓ Grade 12 Certificate (ZAQA verified)
✓ Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/IT (ZAQA verified)
✓ Microsoft SQL Server certification (preferred)

Technical Expertise:
• 3+ years hands-on SQL Server administration
• Advanced T-SQL scripting and query optimization
• Experience with SSRS, SSAS, and Power BI
• Azure SQL Database management

Specialized Skills:
• Always-on Availability Groups configuration
• Database performance troubleshooting
• PowerShell/Python automation scripting

SOFT SKILLS:
• Analytical problem-solving approach
• Strong communication with technical/non-technical stakeholders
• Proactive and self-directed work ethic
