The Social Scientist will work closely with the implementation coordinator and principal investigator. This position is ideal for an early to mid-career researcher who is committed to social science, HIV/NCD service integration and men’s access to health services. They should also demonstrate ambition for academic progression and to enrol for a PhD.
Job Purpose:
The job holder will manage and oversee the social science activities, co-ordinate qualitative and research across WP3 and WP4 and liaise with other WP when and if necessary. The Social Scientist will support the Zambian Principal Investigator (PI) and the co-leads of WP3 and WP4 and will be expected to participate in wider study team tasks. There will be the opportunity within this position to develop a PhD as part of WP3 Digital Health system. Time and budget will be protected for PhD endeavours and deliverables.
Roles and Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Provide oversight for qualitative data collection activities linked to WP3 and WP4
- Actively engage with relevant Zambian stakeholders at all levels (community, district, provincial, national) and with people living with HIV
- Working with regulatory office at Zambart to manage ethics and institutional review board (IRB) submissions.
- Working with the PI, manage quality-assurance activities for data collection, including scheduling and documenting senior review, quality control of data, and editing
- Supervise and line manage the qualitative research team
- Support project budget and administration management
- Provide written progress reports of project activities to the Principal Investigator
- Maintain project oversight, ensuring all regulatory standards are adhered to and run in accordance with established guidelines
- Support and Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Support the project funder reporting and review processes
- Play a lead role in analysis and publications linked to the project deliverables
- Represent the project at national and global events
- Develop a PhD study protocol linked to WP3 and focused on social science
- Submit the research protocol to in-country and other relevant ethics committees
- Ethically conduct PhD specific activities, including recruitment, data collection, data management and data analysis
- Be flexible to undertake any other tasks required
- Qualifications and experience
Essential requirements
- Master’s level degree in social sciences from a reputable University
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in HIV/SRH research
- Evidence of writing skills such as by scientific publications
- Computer literate including experience with qualitative data management software(s)
- Fluency in English; Nyanja and Bemba
