Background
Zambia YMCA is a civil society organisation with a vision of empowering young people for the African Renaissance. Its mission is to translate the principles of the YMCA’s Christian heritage into programs that nurture children and young people, strengthen families, build resilient communities, and promote the development of a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.
Zambia YMCA works across four thematic areas: Mental Health, Education, Sustainable Planet, and Youth Justice. As part of its digital engagement and youth empowerment strategy, the organisation is launching a Podcast and Online TV platform to amplify youth voices, strengthen advocacy, and share impactful content across these thematic areas.
Zambia YMCA invites applications from creative, skilled, and mission-driven individuals to fill the position of Station Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish all requirements for the registration of a television and radio broadcasting station, and ensure full registration with the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA).
- Develop and implement practical strategies to significantly grow viewership and audience engagement.
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the YMCA TV platforms.
- Plan, produce, edit, and publish podcast and video content.
- Develop and maintain content calendars aligned with Zambia YMCA’s thematic areas.
- Coordinate live and recorded programmes, including interviews, documentaries, and special features.
- Train and mentor young people in podcasting, broadcasting, and digital storytelling.
- Manage studio equipment and ensure proper use, servicing, and maintenance.
- Oversee content quality, branding, and compliance with Zambia YMCA values and standards.
- Manage social media and digital platforms for content promotion and distribution.
- Monitor performance metrics and prepare periodic reports on reach, engagement, and impact.
- Ensure safeguarding and ethical standards are upheld across all productions.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Media Studies, Journalism, Film and Television Production, Digital Media, Communications, or a related field.
- Proven experience in production, video production, and/or online TV management.
- Strong proficiency in audio and video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Audition, Final Cut Pro, or equivalent).
- Working knowledge of live-streaming platforms (e.g., YouTube, Facebook Live, Zoom).
- Professional understanding of camera operation, sound engineering and lighting.
- Experience working with youth-led or community-based media initiatives is an added advantage.
Required Skills and Qualities
- Demonstrated maturity, strategic leadership, and strong managerial capability.
- Excellent creativity and storytelling skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Passion for youth empowerment and social impact.
- High levels of integrity, professionalism, and accountability.
