Mika Meats Limited has the following positions to be based in Chipata at the soon-to-be-opened Mika Meats butchery.
Job Overview:
The Store Manager will be responsible for supervising the day-to-day operations of the butchery, ensuring that high standards of quality, hygiene, and customer service are maintained. The manager will manage staff, control inventory, and ensure that the butchery runs efficiently and profitably. The role requires leadership, hands-on management, and strong knowledge of meat processing and retail operations.
The Store Manager will be responsible and accountable to the Area Manager for performance in the following areas:
Operations Management:
- Oversee all daily operations of the butchery, including cutting, packaging, and selling meat products.
- Maintain hygiene and food safety standards according to local health regulations.
- Ensure all butchery equipment is properly maintained and in working order.
- Ensure the cold chain is maintained throughout.
- Ensure SOPs are followed by all team members.
- Coordinate with the maintenance teams to ensure routine maintenance schedules are met and report any breakdowns timely.
- Ensure the store is well secured before leaving the premises.
Staff Management:
- Manage a team of butchers and sales assistants.
- Create staff schedules and managing the leave plan with the approval of area managers.
- Managing overtime
Customer Service:
- Ensure a high standard of customer service by addressing customer enquiries and complaints in a professional manner.
- Monitor customer preferences and feedback to improve product offerings and service.
- Improve speed of service and customer experience in the store.
- Ensure that the 4 Steps to Great Customer Service (Greet, Interact, Verify, Express Thanks) are always implemented in the store.
Inventory and Stock Control:
- Monitor stock levels and ensure that orders are placed in a timely manner.
- Manage the receipt, storage, and rotation of stock to minimize waste and ensure freshness.
- Conduct regular stock counts and update inventory records.
- Ensure drip loss remains within acceptable levels
Sales and Marketing:
- Drive sales and profitability by ensuring that all products and displays are merchandised effectively.
- Execute marketing promotions to increase sales at store levels in conjunction with Area Managers.
- Develop and maintain relationships with customers, including corporate clients.
- Monitor competitor activity and recommend pricing strategies to senior management to remain competitive.
Financial Management:
- Track sales performance and report weekly/monthly to the Area Manager and Retail Manager.
- Manage daily cash-up procedures and reconciliations.
- Manage Float and Petty cash ensuring that these are always balancing and updated.
- Ensures that all daily sales are banked timely.
- Conducts routine spot checks on cashiers to enhance compliance
Health & Safety Compliance:
- Ensure the butchery complies with all health and safety regulations.
- Implement best practices to maintain a safe working environment for employees and customers.
- Adhering to food safety and sanitation controls
- Performing quality inspections of meats and other products
Weekly reports
- Submit weekly trading returns reports to AM
- Submit weekly customer insights to AM
Qualifications and Personal Attributes:
Minimum of a Full Grade 12 certificate, computer literate, experience in a sales environment, Front Office Operations, Food Production, Hotel and Catering Management, meat cutting and/or a minimum of 2 years’ work experience in the meat Processing Industry or any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform job duties may be considered.
