VAC-2026-0021: SYSTEM CONTROLLER

This role is responsible for supporting the control and coordination of the CEC power system to ensure the safety of all persons and equipment and to safeguard the continuity of the electrical power supply to customers in accordance with the applicable supply agreements.

The position will report to the Senior Engineer – System Control

Key Accountabilities

  • Carry out switching operations by remote control to maintain continuity of electrical power supply to customers.
  • Issue system operating instructions clearly and competently to ensure safe working conditions of the system in line with CEC system requirements.
  • Assess system abnormalities correctly so that corrective action is taken to restore electrical power within the shortest possible time.
  • Maintain accurate records of system operations in the master logbook for reference, management use and billing purposes.
  • Adjust the system control operating diagram to show and maintain an accurate overview of the system for smooth running.
  • Maintain frequency and voltage within the required limits, laid down in the bulk and power supply agreement.
  • Issue equipment work permit on the equipment taken out of the system to the responsible person.
  • Adhere to all System Regulations for the safety of all persons working on the system, the safety of the equipment and continuity of electrical supply to customers.
  • Contribute to budgetary control by ensuring that spend on departmental activities is within the prescribed budget and support all opportunities for improved cost management.
  • Demonstrate consistent behavior in line with the Company’s HSE and risk management policies and standards.
  • Carry out all work tasks and assignments in strict compliance with applicable HSE policies and standards by participating in HSE meetings and by completing risk assessments and HSE incident reports.
  • Demonstrate behavior in line with CEC values, standards and expectations of a professional workplace.
  • Participate as an effective team member in working collaboratively with leaders, peers and relevant others to achieve business objectives.

To be successful in this role, you will be required to have:

  • Grade 12 School Certificate.
  • Diploma in Electrical Technology.
  • Computer literate and fully conversant with the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Accreditation to a professional engineering body.
  • 3 years’ experience in power and system control.
  • Appropriate knowledge on Motor related application.
  • In-depth knowledge of HT (High Tension) related applications.
  • Knowledge about power consumption guidelines and regulations.
  • Knowledge of transformer-related core applications and mechanisms.
