JOB PURPOSE
The job holder will be responsible for preparing and delivering structured and differentiated lessons to learners in the Secondary Section of the School. The position holder will be expected to develop learners’ communication, analytical and interpretive skills, and to stimulate high levels of literacy, critical thinking and creativity in line with both the Cambridge Assessment International Education and Zambian Competence Based Curriculum
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan and deliver engaging, curriculum aligned lessons in English Language and Literature.
- Use a range of active-learning strategies.
- Assess, track and report on student progress, providing timely and targeted feedback
- Develop/Improve learners’ reading, writing, speaking and comprehension skills.
- Promote critical analysis of literary texts across genres (prose, poetry and drama)
- Create a positive, inclusive and properly managed classroom environment
- Contribute to curriculum implementation and the creation of high-quality instructional resources
- Support extracurricular activities such as debate, public speaking, drama and literary clubs
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents and pastoral staff to support student achievement and wellbeing
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE
- Preferred Academic and Professional Qualifications for All Positions
- Full Grade 12 Certificate with 5 Credits or better
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Education with specialization in English and/or Literature
- Ability to teach up to A-Level
- Qualified teacher registered and licensed with the Teaching Council of Zambia
- Qualifications verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority
- Familiarity with Examinations Council of Zambia and Cambridge assessment pathways
Knowledge / Experience / Skills / Competencies
- Minimum of three (3) years teaching experience at a reputable school
- Demonstrated ability to improve student literacy outcomes
- Strong command of written and spoken English
- High level of creativity in lesson delivery
- Strong classroom management and learner engagement skills
- Ability to differentiate instruction for mixed-ability learners
- Strong assessment and feedback practices
- A growth mindset and commitment to continuous professional development
- High levels of integrity, professionalism and accountability
- Strong interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to multitask and operate effectively
- Must be computer literate
