Position: ULD Clerk

Reporting To: ULD Coordinator

Location: Lusaka

Job Purpose

The ULD Clerk is responsible for the effective control, tracking, storage, inspection, and documentation of Unit Load Devices (ULDs) to support safe and efficient aircraft and cargo operations. The role ensures that all ULD movements are accurately recorded, inventory levels are maintained, and serviceable ULDs are available to meet airline operational requirements. The ULD Clerk is responsible for ensuring compliance with ZEGA Limited procedures, airline standards, IATA ULD Regulations, and applicable aviation safety and security requirements while maintaining accurate records and supporting operational efficiency.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate ULD inventory records and conduct daily stock reconciliation.
  • Receive, issue and record all ULD movements to and from airlines, warehouses and ramp operations.
  • Inspect ULDs for serviceability in accordance with airline and IATA standards.
  • Identify, tag, isolate and report damaged or unserviceable ULDs.
  • Ensure ULDs are stored correctly and safely to prevent damage.
  • Monitor ULD availability and advise the ULD Coordinator of shortages or surpluses.
  • Prepare daily, weekly and monthly inventory and movement reports.
  • Coordinate with exports warehouse, ramp and load control teams to ensure the correct ULDs are available for flight operations.
  • Arrange the handover/ transfer and return of ULDs as directed by the ULD Coordinator.
  • Maintain records of handover/transfers, recoveries and ULD leases where applicable.
  • Report any discrepancies, missing ULDs or operational irregularities promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with ZEGA procedures, airline requirements and IATA ULD Regulations.
  • Support airline and internal audits by providing records, documentation and operational information when requested.
  • Follow all safety, security and occupational health procedures while handling ULDs.
  • Perform any other ULD-related operational duties assigned by the ULD Coordinator or management.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Grade 12 School Certificate with a minimum of five (5) credits, including English and Mathematics.
  • Training in Unit Load Device (ULD) Management or IATA ULD Operations will be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of IATA ULD Regulations and airline ULD handling procedures.
  • Knowledge of Cargo Handling procedures.
  • Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) awareness/training will be an added advantage.
  • Aviation Security Awareness training will be an added advantage.
  • Safety Management System (SMS) training will be an added advantage.
  • At least one (1) year of experience in cargo operations, warehouse operations, ramp operations, ULD management, inventory control, or a similar aviation environment.

Competences

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Experience using inventory or warehouse management systems will be an added advantage.
  • Good numerical and record-keeping skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet operational deadlines.
  • Ability to work shifts, weekends, public holidays, and extended hours as required by operational demands.
  • Physically fit and capable of working in an airport operational environment.
  • High level of integrity, accountability, and commitment to safety and operational excellence.
