Reports to: Technical Director – Priority Populations
Background:
John Snow Health Limited (JSH), a public health organization dedicated to improving the provision of public health services in Zambia and the region, is recruiting for an Advisor – Economic Strengthening for the USAID-funded Controlling HIV Epidemic for Key and Underserved Populations (CHEKUP II). CHEKUP II aims to address the needs of people living with HIV (PLHIV) and those most at risk of acquiring HIV and contribute to HIV mitigation and epidemic control. In addition, the program seeks to improve the health outcomes of priority populations in the highest HIV-burden provinces of Zambia.

Responsibilities
The Advisor – Economic Strengthening is responsible for designing and implementing strategies for greater private sector engagement in project activities. S/he leads efforts to strengthen the economic strengthening component of the project and facilitates bridges to employment for project beneficiaries. In addition, the Advisor will facilitate partnerships with private sector entities in CHEK-UP II implementation districts to support economic strengthening and private sector engagement in other project activities.
The position reports to the Technical Director- Priority Populations and is based full-time in Lusaka, Zambia.

Responsibilities:
• Develop and operationalise strategies to support and strengthen the economic strengthening component of CHEKUP II.
• Facilitate partnerships with private sector entities involved in health to increase access to services for project beneficiaries
• Facilitate the development of the district and project-specific public-private sector models, enhancing economic strengthening activities and increasing access to health services for project beneficiaries.
• versee the design, adaptation, and implementation of tools, consultative processes and interventions that aim to increase access to economic strengthening in project districts
• Engage and collaborate with USAID, MOH, NAC, and private sector stakeholders at national level and project districts.
• Design and implement strategies to mobilise and leverage financial and non-financial resources and incentives to improve beneficiary linkages to the private sector, including support for internships and journey to employability
• Works closely with Regional Office leadership to direct regional private sector and economic strengthening activities.
• Provide guidance, coaching, mentoring and learning opportunities to build the team’s capacity in both Lusaka and district offices and other project staff.
• Implement and adhere to JSH’s personnel, financial, operations and fraud management policies.
• Travel to regional offices as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Technical Director – Priority Populations

Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in public health, business, economics, policy, demography, or related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in global health, health policy, private health sector, market systems, healthcare management consulting or other relevant private and public sector experience.
• Demonstrated experience successfully engaging with public and private sector partners.
• Excellent networking, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
• Knowledge of HIV prevention, health systems, market development, supply chain, public-private partnerships, economics, financing, and capacity development, especially in developing countries or emerging markets.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise staff, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills.
• Previous work experience with USAID is preferred.
Supervision and Reporting:
The Advisor – Economic Strengthening will work under the guidance and supervision of the Technical Director – Priority Populations.
