JOB DETAILS:
BACKGROUND:
The International Trade Centre (ITC) is a joint agency of the United Nations (UN) and World Trade Organization (WTO) based in Geneva, Switzerland. ITC’s mission is to enable small business export success in developing and transition-economy countries, by providing, with partners, sustainable and inclusive development solutions to the private sector, trade support institutions (TSIs) and policymakers.
ITC recognizes that all women have the right to a decent income, employment, fair working
conditions and a choice and voice in shaping their economic context. ITC’s SheTrades initiative works to improve women’s livelihood through trade by scaling up platforms and partnerships for gender equality, expanding support to women in trade and delivering interventions to make value chains more inclusive. Our aim is to ensure that women entrepreneurs and producers benefit from capacity building resources as well as access to key knowledge, resources, and networks.

Objective of the SheTrades Zambia Project
The purpose of the SheTrades Zambia project is to increase the participation of women-led
businesses in trade by improving their competitiveness and strengthening their market and
investment linkages. The project seeks to enable Zambian women to benefit from economic
participation, focusing on agricultural and textiles & apparel value chains. Within the framework of the International Trade Centre’s SheTrades Initiative, the project will work with key public and private stakeholders to address issues that are inhibiting Zambian women from fulfilling their economic potential.
Women in developing countries even those with high rates of entrepreneurship, encounter many challenges in trying to start a business. One of the most challenging tasks for many female entrepreneurs is to raise funds for their ventures. In Zambia, although it has one of the highest proportions of female entrepreneurs on the African continent, a big proportion of Zambian women are still financially excluded.
While currently, multiple institutions engage in diverse gender-lens investing approaches, women entrepreneurs in Zambia are still experiencing difficulties accessing them. Much as many publications focus on investing challenges in the experience of women entrepreneurs navigating the financial landscape and recommendations to advance financial inclusion, but there is a lack of a one-stop repository of suitable funding options for women and how to access those funds. Therefore, ITC
