Job Purpose:
The Health and Safety Officer is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and enforcing health and safety standards across all project sites. The role ensures that construction, electrical, and warehouse operations are conducted in compliance with safety regulations, minimizing risks to personnel, equipment, and the environment
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure adherence to company HSE policies and national regulations; develop and implement site-specific safety plans.
- Conduct risk assessments, identify hazards (civil, electrical, logistics), and enforce appropriate control measures.
- Perform regular inspections, ensure proper PPE usage, and monitor compliance with safe work procedures.
- Investigate accidents and near misses, conduct root cause analyses, and prepare detailed reports.
- Lead toolbox talks, deliver safety training, and promote continuous safety awareness initiatives.
- Develop emergency procedures, coordinate drills, ensure availability of emergency equipment, and act as a focal point during incidents.
- Monitor environmental impact, ensure proper waste management, and support site restoration efforts.
- Prepare HSE reports with performance metrics, support audits, and liaise with regulatory bodies.
- Ensure contractor compliance with HSE standards and contribute to contractor evaluations.
Knowledge and Skills
Qualifications and experience:
- Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related field.
- Affiliation with Zambia Occupational Health and Safety Association.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in health and safety, preferably in construction, electrical, or energy projects.
- Knowledge of local safety regulations and standards.
Language
- Excellent oral and written English required.
- Proficiency in at least one local Zambian language; more languages are a plus.
