VVOB – education for development is an international non-profit organisation with over 40 years’ experience in strengthening the quality of education systems in Africa, Asia and South America in close partnership with ministries of education and their institutions. As VVOB establishes a new country office in Malawi for the SCALE programme, strong interim leadership is required to ensure seamless coordination, continuity, and structured transition to a fully staffed, Malawi‑based team. Senior Project Consultancy Services for remediation Pilot Programme in Malawi will play a pivotal role in supporting VVOB during the start‑up and transition phase of the SCALE Malawi programme. 

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Ensure VVOB maintains effective leadership and coordination during the establishment of its Malawi office.  
  • Provide direct project management support to maintain momentum in planning, preparation, and early implementation and scaling of the remediation pilot.  
  • Guide and orient new VVOB staff (Operations Manager, Education Advisors, Finance/Admin roles) as they are recruited.  
  • Strengthen cross‑team working processes, including collaboration with the VVOB Zambia transition team and the TaRL Africa technical support team.  
  • Serve as a reliable focal point for government, donor and partner engagement until the handover to new country‑based staff. 

Desired Qualifications and Experience: 

  • Master’s degree in education, International Development, Educational Planning, Project Management, or related field.  
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in education programme management, ideally in Malawi.  
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex multi‑stakeholder projects (MoE, donors, INGOs, research partners).  
  • Track record in programme start‑up, transition management, or organisational setup.  
  • Strong familiarity with foundational learning, remedial education, or TaRL‑aligned approaches.  
  • Strong project management skills (workplans, budgets, risk management, adaptive delivery).  
  • Excellent strategic coordination, communication and consensus‑building abilities.
