Job description:
Purpose
To supervise and coordinate waste deposition activities during assigned shifts to meet production targets while ensuring strict compliance with safety, health, environmental, and quality standards. The role ensures optimal deployment of personnel and equipment for efficient, safe, and environmentally sound waste handling.
Key Responsibilities
- The incumbent will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and legal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.
- Supervise and coordinate daily waste deposition operations during shift hours, ensuring alignment with mine plans and production schedules.
- Monitor and guide the operation of haul trucks, dozers, graders, and support equipment to ensure efficient material placement and cycle time optimization.
- Conduct pre-shift meetings covering safety, operational targets, and equipment status updates.
- Liaise with planning, dispatch, drilling, blasting, and maintenance teams to ensure seamless coordination of operations.
- Monitor equipment performance, report breakdowns, and coordinate timely interventions with the maintenance team.
- Conduct regular inspections of waste dump areas to ensure stability, compliance with design parameters, proper drainage, and environmental safeguards.
- Ensure that all activities comply with relevant statutory, company, and industry-specific health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Compile and submit accurate shift production reports, equipment utilization records, and incident reports.
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and coaching to shift personnel, driving high performance, discipline, and professional development.
- Promote and enforce a strong safety culture across the crew.
- Support cost control by managing shift resources efficiently and avoiding unnecessary delays or equipment misuse.
- Perform additional duties as assigned in line with operational priorities..
Qualifications
- Grade 12 Certificate
- Diploma or Degree in Mining/Mineral Science or any related or equivalent mining qualification
- Valid Blasting License
- First Aid Certificate
- Driver’s License
Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience in open-pit mining operations,
- At least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role overseeing load and haul or waste deposition activities.
- Knowledge of waste dump construction, slope stability, and environmental compliance is highly desirable.
- Sound understanding of mining equipment operation and dispatch systems.
- Solid knowledge of mining operations, rules, and safety regulations
- Proven track record in supervising and leading teams
- Ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced mining environment
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Proficiency in using PCs and relevant mining software systems

- An understanding of relevant legislation, policies and procedures
Develop and deliver communication skills training programs aligned with the prescribed syllabus, ensuring content meets curriculum objectives and industry standards. Design and update teaching materials, lesson plans, and practical exercises to enhance student learning outcomes. Provide constructive feedback to students on their communication styles and guide them in addressing areas for improvement. Maintain accurate and complete records of student attendance, performance, and assessments, adhering to professional record management standards. Collaborate with the Superintendent and other relevant training personnel to ensure all training initiatives align with institutional goals. Perform other duties or tasks as reasonably assigned by the supervisor.
