Job Description:
The Ventilation Technician will design, maintain, and monitor ventilation and firefighting systems to ensure a safe working environment in the mine, adhering to Zambian mining regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and design short, medium, and long-term ventilation and firefighting systems.
- Supervise the installation and maintenance of ventilation systems.
- Reduce workplace intake temperatures to comfortable levels.
- Draft ventilation and fan layouts per Standard Ventilation Best Practice.
- Monitor and analyze air quality data (gas concentrations, temperature, humidity, airflow) for safety compliance.
- Develop and implement emergency ventilation plans for mine emergencies (e.g., fires, gas leaks).
- Provide comprehensive reports with recommendations to address hazards.
- Maintain schedules for inspecting work areas and stations per Mining Regulations.
- Perform other lawful assignments as required.
Qualifications:
- Full Grade 12 School Certificate.
- Diploma in Mine Ventilation.
- Knowledge of Zambian Mining Regulations related to mine ventilation.
- First Aid certification.
- Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ).
- Minimum 3 years’ work experience, preferably in the mining sector.
- Keen attention to detail.
