Job description:
Purpose of the role
Field Officers in resettlement—to assist the team with resettlement projects with face-to-face surveys and data collection field work in line with and compliant with IFC performance standards and Zambian legislation, authorities, and local context.

Job & Candidate Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
Assessment and Data Collection:
• Asset surveys, socio-economic surveys, and M&E directly relative to resettlement.
• Assist in conducting household and community-level assessments to identify needs, vulnerabilities, and opportunities for support.
• Collect and analyse data to inform decision-making and ensure effective targeting of resettlement assistance.
• Contribute to the preparation of baseline surveys and post-resettlement evaluations.

Field monitoring and reporting:
• Conduct field visits to resettlement areas to monitor the progress of resettlement activities.
• Prepare regular reports documenting field findings, progress, challenges, and recommendations.
• Track the status of resettlement projects, ensuring activities are completed on time and according to the approved plans.

Community Engagement:
• Engage with local communities and displaced persons, ensuring that their concerns and needs are addressed during the resettlement process.
• Organize and facilitate meetings with community leaders, residents, and other stakeholders to provide information about the resettlement process and collect feedback and accurate project detail.
• Ensure active participation and inclusion of vulnerable groups (e.g., women, children, persons with disabilities) in the resettlement process.

Protection and Safeguarding:
• Ensure that resettlement activities are carried out in a manner that respects the rights and dignity of affected populations.
• Promote and uphold the protection of vulnerable groups throughout the resettlement process, including safeguarding against exploitation and abuse.

Qualifications and Experience:
• Diploma/Bachelor’s degree or higher in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Environmental Management, or related fields.
• Fluent in Zambia’s North Western Province local languages.
• Familiar and experience with GPS, GIS, tablets, electronic, and hard copy data collection methods.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in asset survey, data collection in resettlement, and displacement projects.
• Experience working in the field with communities, particularly in rural or remote areas.
• Knowledge of Zambian resettlement laws and international best practices for resettlement programs is desirable.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with communities and individuals involved in projects.
• Ability to conduct assessments, collect data, and analyse information.
• Problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure in challenging environments.
• Knowledge of basic project management and monitoring and evaluation (M&E) practices.
• Fluency in English and proficiency in local languages (e.g., Kaonde, Bemba, Nyanja, North Western Province languages) is necessary.

Working Conditions:
• The role will involve frequent travel to field locations, often in remote or underserved areas.
• Field officers will be expected to work under challenging conditions, including adverse weather and logistical constraints.
• Flexible working hours may be required to accommodate the needs of resettlement activities and affected populations.
