Job Purpose:

To control and coordinate all finance functions of the Projects by providing the Director with detailed analytical reports to aid decision making, planning and monitoring and controlling expenditures.

Main Duties and Accountabilities:

  • Assists Researchers in formulating financial proposals and project costing;
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining project budgets, tracking expenses against those budgets, and ensuring that projects stay within their financial boundaries;
  • Prepare and analyze financial reports, providing regular updates on project performance, including variances from the budget and forecasts;
  • Review and confirm invoices, ensuring accuracy and compliance with procedures and manage the payment process;
  • Play a key role in identifying and controlling project costs, helping to minimize overruns and maximize efficiency;
  • Ensure that all project-related financial activities adhere to relevant accounting standards and regulations maintain accurate and up-to-date project records, ensuring the integrity of financial data;
  • Support statutory audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations of financial transactions;
  • Act as a bridge between the project team and the finance department, ensuring that financial information is effectively communicated and understood; and
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Grade 12 or Form V Certificate (or its equivalent) with 5 “0” levels including English and Mathematics;
  • Diploma in Accountancy, Business Administration or its equivalent;
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy, Business Administration or its equivalent will be added advantage;
  • Minimum of Two (02) years’ experience in Financial Management and Accounting for donor funds and consultancy projects; and
  • Must be a member of a relevant professional body.

Required Competencies and Behavioral Attributes:

  • Analysis of various ledgers/books and advise on irregularities and balance them accordingly to reflect exact transactions;
  • Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Accounting skills to competently aid review of corporate financial management ledger systems in liaison with superior and others except on matters that require extensive consultation;
  • Financial mathematical computations are required to undertake various computations and preparation of financial records;
  • Ability to communicate orally and assist in preparing monthly commitment and experience return to prepare trial balance and final accounts statements monthly, quarterly and annually for submission to the superior;
  • Ability to use a computer and accounting packages; and
  • Diplomacy and tact are required to interact with superiors and local and international officials through interpersonal relations.

Reporting Relationships:

  • Immediate Supervisor: Director – CBUACESM / Senior Accountant.
  • Salary Scale: PSS07
