Mindolo Ecumenical Foundation (MEF) is a faith based, non-denominational and Pan African Centre of Study, Worship and Reflection. It is located in Mindolo, Kitwe District on Copperbelt Province of Zambia.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill in the following vacant position at Mindolo Ecumenical Foundation: AGRO-ECOLOGY TECHNICIAN.
MEF, is looking for an Agro-ecology Technician. S/he will be responsible for the improvement of the agriculture practices and address food security of the Chilobwe Community in Kalulushi.
Reports to: Mindolo Training Farm Manager
Location: The successful candidate should be ready to live with his/her family in Chilobwe Community in the newly built standard house.
Duties and Responsibilities:
To coordinate the day to day project activities and projects to be embarked on at the Chilobwe Community in Kalulushi
To work with Chilobwe community families (including the 9 Chilobwe Community demo sites and community family fields)
Coordinate the meetings for the Chilobwe Community and keep a record of the meetings
Supervise the cultivation, planting, irrigation of crops and harvesting
Monitor the rearing of chickens and goats to be provided to the Chilobwe Community under the project’s fund
To safeguard livestock and crop heath by ensuring that the environment is safe through detection of any diseases, fire or health problems at the demo sites
Help in provision of information to enable effective keeping of records of livestock and crops and provide reports for management decision making
To take any other duties as may be specified by the Farm Manager
Qualifications and Experience:
Certificate or Diploma in Agro-ecology or related field
A minimum of one (1) year experience in agriculture
Experience working with community groups is an added advantage
Desirable, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to work independently in an efficient manner, leadership and teamwork skills.
Ready to live with his/her family in the Chilobwe community
Ability to lead, manage and train a group of people in agricultural work.
Have strong sense of personal accountability
Communication skills and achievement of commitments and goals
Languages: Bemba and English essential
Ability to write reports in English.
