JOB DETAILS:
Job Summary:
We are seeking a qualified and experienced Animal Nutritionist to join our team in Zambia. The successful candidate will play a critical role in formulating and improving animal feed, ensuring optimal nutrition for livestock, and enhancing animal health, growth, and productivity. This position requires collaboration with farmers, feed manufacturers, veterinarians, and other stakeholders to promote sustainable and efficient animal nutrition practices.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Feed Formulation and Development:
• Develop and optimize feed formulations based on the nutritional needs of different species (e.g., poultry, cattle, pigs, etc.).
• Analyze feed ingredients to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, and nutritional value.
• Adjust formulations based on raw material availability and cost fluctuations.
2. Nutritional Analysis and Research:
• Conduct nutritional analysis of feed samples to ensure compliance with industry standards.
• Stay updated on advancements in animal nutrition and recommend new ingredients or technologies.
• Monitor and assess the impact of feed on animal health, growth rates, reproduction, and production performance.
3. Advisory and Training:
• Provide technical support and guidance to farmers, feed producers, and distributors.
• Train farm staff and feed mill operators on best practices in feed preparation and usage.
• Offer advice on feeding regimes and schedules tailored to specific livestock needs.
4. Quality Assurance and Compliance:
• Ensure all feed formulations comply with local and international regulations and standards.
• Monitor and evaluate feed production processes to maintain quality and consistency.
• Ensure proper labelling of feed products, including nutritional content and usage instructions.
5. Sustainability and Cost Efficiency:
• Identify and incorporate sustainable and locally available raw materials into feed formulations.
• Work on cost reduction strategies while maintaining the nutritional quality of feeds.
• Collaborate with suppliers to secure high-quality raw materials at competitive prices.
6. Problem Solving and Support:
• Diagnose and address nutritional deficiencies, feed-related diseases, or productivity issues in livestock.
• Collaborate with veterinarians to develop strategies to prevent and manage diseases.
7. Reporting and Documentation:
• Maintain accurate records of feed formulations, nutritional analyses, and trials.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations for management and stakeholders.

Qualifications and Requirements:
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in animal nutrition, Animal Science, Veterinary Science, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
• Experience: At least 8-10 years of experience in animal nutrition, feed formulation, or a related role.
• Technical Skills:
• Proficiency in feed formulation software.
• Strong understanding of the nutritional requirements of various livestock species.
• Knowledge of feed manufacturing processes and quality control.
• Communication Skills: Ability to effectively communicate with farmers, suppliers, and team members.
• Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving skills and ability to conduct nutritional analysis and research.
• Knowledge of Regulations: Familiarity with Zambian and international feed and livestock regulations.
• Other Requirements:
• Willingness to travel within Zambia and occasionally outside the country.
• Valid driver’s license.
