JOB DETAILS:

To perform skilled welding and fabrication work for underground mining equipment while ensuring strict adherence to safety standards and maintenance procedures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Technical Operations:
• Fabricate and weld underground ancillary equipment including conveyors, chutes, and support structures
• Conduct planned preventive maintenance on mining equipment
• Interpret technical drawings and specifications for fabrication projects

Safety & Compliance:
• Strictly enforce all mine safety regulations and standard operating procedures
• Maintain proper housekeeping of tools and equipment after use
• Implement measures to prevent equipment damage and personnel injuries
• Champion SLAM (Stop, Look, Assess, Manage) safety protocols

Administrative Duties:
• Complete daily maintenance checklists and equipment worksheets
• Maintain accurate records of fabrication projects and maintenance activities
• Report equipment availability and maintenance requirements

Training & Development:
• Conduct Mopani Communication (Mcom) safety briefings
• Participate in skills development programs for junior technicians

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Certification:
✓ Grade 12 Certificate (ZAQA verified)
✓ Craft Certificate in Metal Fabrication (ZAQA verified)
✓ Valid EIZ/ERB membership
✓ Current First Aid Certificate

Experience & Skills:
• 3+ years welding/fabrication experience in mining/industrial setting
• Proficiency in ARC, MIG, and gas welding techniques
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
• Strong understanding of mine safety protocols

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:
• Safety-conscious with excellent risk awareness
• Self-motivated with strong problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently underground
• Physically fit for demanding mining environment
