Huachen International (Tera Fleet) Limited seeks to employ Assistants to the Fleet Manager in the Operations Department to join our growing team.

DEPARTMENT: Fleet Operations Department

LOCATION: Ndola, Sakania

JOB PURPOSE

The overall purpose of the role is to assist the Fleet Manager in managing and overseeing the supervision of the company’s fleet and staff operations.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Vehicle Dispatching and On-Route Operation Management — Assist with route planning within Zambia and for cross‑border transportation (mainly from Zambia to mining sites including Kolwezi and Likasi in the Democratic Republic of the Congo), to ensure safe and on‑time delivery of cargo. Establish an emergency response mechanism to efficiently handle unexpected incidents such as vehicle breakdowns in transit, traffic accidents and detentions at checkpoints.
  2. Fuel Management — Be responsible for controlling fuel issuance, the core cost of the fleet. Regularly verify truck refuelling data to limit irregular practices, including fuel theft and unauthorised fuel resale.
  3. Cost Control — Review and manage fleet and driver expenses across all routes, including toll fees, bridge tolls and minor local statutory charges, to ensure documentary evidence for every payment. Coordinate with loading‑unloading factories, ports or yards to optimize queuing and cargo handling procedures and minimise fleet transit delays.
  4. Policy Compliance and Asset Management — Assist in renewing local transport permits and follow up on accident claims: oversee the full‑cycle process of damage assessment, incident reporting and insurance claims for traffic accidents, to maximise corporate recovery claims.
  5. Local Team Management — Assist in formulating and implementing daily management rules, safe‑driving training and performance‑based compensation assessment systems for local and cross-border drivers. Cooperate with Admin and HR departments to properly handle local and cross-border drivers’ onboarding, resignation, disciplinary cases and potential labour‑office disputes. Uphold and guarantee company policy implementation to effectively manage local operation teams covering rewards & penalties, recruitment and development.
  6. Vehicle Maintenance and Logistic Support — Work with the in‑house repair workshop to formulate and implement preventive maintenance schedules for heavy‑duty trucks from brands including CNHTC, Shaanxi Automobile and FAW, to minimize vehicle breakdowns. Review vehicle repair reports and spare‑parts requisition forms to prevent false reporting, concealed information and loss of spare parts.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Transport & Logistics Management, Supply Chain, Business Administration or any relevant field.
  • At least three (03) years of hands-on experience in cross-border fleet supervision/management or logistics/transportation.

  • Must be a paid member of the Zambia Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (ZCILT)
