WWF Zambia has been implementing a 36 months project called the Climate Adaptation in Protected Areas (CAPA) Initiative in the Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (KAZA TFCA) since April 2023. The project is now in its final year of implementation and is scheduled to end in January 2026. The project is funded by the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) as direct donors and Global Affairs Canada (GAC) as the primary donor with cofinancing from WWF International.
The main goal of the project is to increase resilience of ecosystems and people – women and men to current and future climate change in selected biodiversity-rich ecosystems of the Global South. The project has been working to enhance Gender and Social Inclusion (GESI) in Nature Based Solutions (NBS) for adaptation in the KAZA
Within the KAZA TFCA, the CAPA initiative is being implemented in selected sites namely; Sioma Ngwezi National Park and Lower West Zambezi Game Management Area (GMA) in Sesheke and Sioma Districts as well as Mosi Oa Tunya National Park and Nsongwe areas of Kazungula District in Zambia. Communal areas around Hwange and Chizarira National Parks in Zimbabwe, Bwabwata National Park in Namibia and parts of Luenge Luiana National Park in Angola.
1.1 JOB PURPOSE
WWF Zambia seeks to recruit for the position of the CAPA Project Coordinator who will be based in Sesheke and will report to the Sioma Ngwezi Landscape Manager with dotted reporting line to the Senior CAPA Manager and Chief Conservation Officer. The successful candidate will coordinate the overall programmatic planning, implementation and reporting in the KAZA landscape and will be the technical link between WWF Zambia and the CAPA Senior Manager at WWF Regional Office for Africa. He/ She will work in liaison with the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) and National Embedded Coordinator for the KAZA project site. He/she will be expected to develop relations with WWF Zimbabwe, WWF in Namibia and ACADIR in Angola. He/ She will also work closely with the Area Wardens of the Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW) in Sioma Ngwezi and Mosi Oa Tunya as well as other specialists within the Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW)
1.2 MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Planning, Coordination and financial management.
- Responsible for the execution of the CAPA Year 3 annual work plan in consultation with country project leads in Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Angola as well as the Senior CAPA Manager.
- Technical lead in the implementation of nature-based solutions involving water harvesting/water conservation, forest regeneration or /restoration, riverine restoration, forest-based enterprises development and wildlife restocking.
- Directly responsible for the effective and accelerated implementation of the CAPA initiative Year 3 approved activities.
- Coordinate and oversee the procurement of materials and specialist services required in the implementation of the project, ensuring highest compliance to WWF and donor guidelines / standards.
- Provide supervisory oversight of the CAPA project implementation by subcontracted entities. Ensure that subcontracted partners submit Technical and Financial reports in the manner and times agreed in their contracts
- Provide budgetary control/ tracking of CAPA project funds through closely working with the CAPA Grant Accountant and the Finance Manager.
- Lead and participate in resource mobilization for the second phase of the project.
Reporting
- Submit weekly and monthly update reports to the Landscape coordinator, Senior CAPA Manager and Chief Conservation Officer.
- Conduct monthly financial analysis with the CAPA Grant Accountant and submit monthly financial management reports.
- Submit quarterly financial reports in a timely manner and in the agreed formats in collaboration with the Grant Accountant and Finance Manager.
- Submit consolidated six months and End of Project Technical and Financial Reports according to the contractual arrangements and templates in a timely and high-quality fashion.
- Ensure all other reports that may come up are written and submitted in an efficient and effective manner.
- Support subcontracted implementing partners to submit reports within the agreed deadlines.
- Provide regular bimonthly updates to the WWF Zambia Country Leadership Team (CLT) focusing on project progress, challenges and proposed adaptive solutions.
Communication
- Supervise and support the CAPA Digital Communications Officer in the implementation of Year 3 CAPA communication plan.
- Coordinate with the WWF KAZA communication Officer and IISD Communications Focal point person.
Monitoring
- In collaboration with the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) team, revise the monitoring plan for the project, ensuring that staff implementing activities as well as subcontracted partners report through the Cobol platform.
- Contribute to the implementation of CAPA’s Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Framework, including facilitating the implementation and coordination of MEL activities, such as data collection and training sessions.
- Support the implementation of the agreed GESI, Environmental and Social Safeguards Framework (ESSF) activities in all project sites in accordance with WWF International’s standards.
1.3 QUALIFICATIONS PROFILE
Professional/education Qualifications and desired experience
- Master’s degree in environmental sciences/Natural Resource Management/Water Resources Management/Climate Change Studies or related qualification with good knowledge of nature-based solutions for climate adaptation.
- A Diploma in Water Engineering would be an added advantage.
- At least 5 years of professional experience in managing programs/ with three (3) years working at managerial level in natural resources management programs with preferred focus on nature-based solutions, protected areas management, climate change adaptation or conservation.
- Experience developing and tracking workplans, budgets and milestones.
- Experience in working with NGOs, civil society organizations and local communities.
Skills and Competences required
- Ability to establish priorities and to plan, coordinate and monitor own work plan and those under his/her supervision, including the ability to coordinate meetings and events.
Good communications skills and ability to work interactively with stakeholders.
- Fluent in written and spoken English and Silozi.
- Analytical capacity and ability to become familiar with new topics quickly.
- Results-focused, able to work quickly and accurately to meet tight deadlines without compromising the quality of the results.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people in a multi-cultural environment.
- Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office applications, and experience in handling web-based communications and management systems.
- Experience working in a fast-paced, multi-project environment.

Good working knowledge of website content management systems to publish content. Good working knowledge of communications data bases; WWF Zambia uses Content Management System (CMS) database. Good working knowledge of email service providers to design, create and send marketing emails. WWF Zambia uses Mailchimp. Experience working with Adobe Creative Suite to create graphics and other visual assets to agreed visual identity guidelines. Ability to create content for a range of audiences for a mix of purposes, including fundraising, volunteer recruitment, awareness raising, campaigning and emotional support content. An understanding of digital copywriting and publishing. Good interpersonal and team working skills, to be able to clearly and concisely communicate aims, creative approach, priorities and concerns. Working knowledge of social media reporting tools, email marketing reporting tools and Google Analytics. Working knowledge of HTML to supplement the design of email marketing templates and web pages. Proven image editing and design skills. WWF Zambia uses Adobe Creative Suite. Experience of working within the charity sector and/or within volunteer-led organizations an advantage.
