Overview

The Center for International Forestry Research and World Agroforestry (CIFOR-ICRAF) is seeking to recruit a Communications Assistant (consultancy) to support the effective implementation of the communications strategy for the Sustainable Wildlife Management (SWM) Programme in Zambia by contributing to content development, event coordination, media engagement, and performance reporting. The role aims to enhance public awareness, stakeholder engagement, and the overall visibility of the project at the country level.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of the communications strategy/action plan for the Sustainable Wildlife Management Programme in Zambia to enhance stakeholder awareness, visibility, and engagement.
  • Support the production of outreach and visibility content (blogs, photos, social media posts etc.) for the Sustainable Wildlife Management Programme in Zambia to showcase results, increase public awareness, and strengthen stakeholder engagement.
  • Support the coordination of media engagement logistics, such as drafting media invitations and maintaining a database of targeted journalists and media outlets to increase media coverage, awareness and visibility of the Sustainable Wildlife Management Programme in Zambia.
  • Support the coordination and effective coverage of Sustainable Wildlife Management Programme events such as workshops and open days to ensure consistent visibility, stakeholder engagement, and documentation of key outcomes.
  • Contribute to the production of analytical reports on the performance of outreach, awareness and visibility activities for the Sustainable Wildlife Management Programme in Zambia to inform ongoing communication planning and decision-making.
  • Undertake other activities as agreed upon to support the overall outreach, awareness and visibility objectives of the Sustainable Wildlife Management Programme.

Education, knowledge and experience

  • Minimum qualification of bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or a related field.
    • Excellent English language skills (both verbal and written).
    • A minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in the implementation of communication strategies.
    • Experience in journalism, writing, editing and content creation (blogs, impact stories and photography).
    • Proven ability to effectively undertake communication activities.
    • Must be able to multitask and work well under pressure.
    • Excellent understanding of different communication formats and channels, as well as strong knowledge and understanding of current trends in digital media/social media.
    • Background and understanding of environment, climate, forestry or related subject areas and science communication.

Terms and conditions

  • This is a consultancy position
    • The period of the consultancy is 10 (ten) months with the possibility of renewal
