JOB DETAILS:

To Manage the shift operation of the Anode Furnace and Casting Wheel area of the Copper Smelter.  The Anode Furnace and Casting Wheel area consists of 2×500 tonne rotary anode furnaces and a 2×18 mould double casting wheel system.

Key Responsibilities

• This position will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and legal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.
• Maintain safety and discipline in the Section
• Ensure that shift throughput targets for the anode furnace and casting area are achieved.
• Supervise the control room operators and other operators in the Section.
• Monitor plant operations and ensure operating procedures are strictly followed
• Ensure that the critical operating parameters are kept within pre-determined limits
• Prepare, issue, close and cancel work permits in the Anode Furnace & Casting Wheel area
• Maintain required stock of all consumables at site
• Monitor and interpret assay results from process streams
• Actively seek more information and assistance from other sources as required to diagnose and correct any problems with operating equipment and processes (e.g. maintenance, metallurgists)
• Understand and identify all relevant plant equipment, process control and emergency systems; be able to explain these clearly to others
• Provide training and development opportunities for all direct reports on an ongoing basis
• Liaise closely with his counterpart in the Peirce Smith Converter area
• Assist in the cold and hot commissioning of the Anode Furnaces and the Casting Wheels
• Other duties as directed by the Shift Coordinator – Secondary Smelting

Qualifications

• Diploma/Degree in Chemical or Metallurgical Engineering or Equivalent
• All Academic Qualification’s Must Be Certified By ZAQA

Experience

Required:

• At least 5 years of supervisory experience in copper smelting

Desirable:

• Supervisory experience with Anode Furnaces
• Supervisory experience with Anode Casting Wheels
• Familiar with typical process plant equipment such as pumps, blowers and instrumentation
• Familiar with safety systems, permit systems and procedures in a process plant environment

BEHAVIOURAL TRAITS

• Good at maintaining operating standards, workforce discipline and teamwork.
• Good communication skills
• Systematic monitoring and assessment skills

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Should have a good understanding of the:

• Equipment in the area of supervision, its purpose and how it operates
• Process Flow Sheet in the area of supervision
