Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit a highly committed individual for the position of Database Geologist – to join the Exploration Department. We are in search of an individual who can champion Barrick’s DNA by:

Reporting to the Superintendent – Database Management, you will be responsible for maintaining the geological database by ensuring all data collected is imported into the database promptly and is of high quality for application to Exploration work-flows. This role requires applying knowledge from practical experience of database migration, validation and database management.
Responsibilities or duties
Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
- Ensure that written and approved Standard operating procedures are created and updated for all aspects of the exploration work-flows.
- Update and inform end users of changes in databases and roll-out training to utilize systems.
- Control database and systems access permissions and privileges in conjunction with the Database Manager and Database team.
- Show a reasonable-level of understanding for Laboratory assaying and submission chain of custody protocols.
- Proactively and regularly make recommendations for system improvements.
- Collate, prepare, and present statistical information for internal and external use.
- Prepare weekly, monthly and quarterly QAQC reports, ensuring certified reference material (CRM) stock levels are monitored and replenished
- Familiarity with working with Cadastre License management, spatial verification and compliance tracking to support exploration planning and regulatory reporting.
- Draught high-quality geological and spatial maps to support exploration technical sessions, team reporting and stakeholder communication
- Accountable for completion of all tasks identified in the Management Operating System (MOS) to the specified quality and timelines as assigned to this role.
- Demonstrate a high-level understanding of AC, RC and DD drilling techniques, the application of downhole survey tools and their linkage to geological databases
- Geological data validation in Leapfrog Geo, including QA/QC of drillhole data identifying inconsistencies to prepare clean datasets for reliable 3D modeling
- Experience in geochemical data validation in ioGAS to produce datasets ready for multivariate data analysis
- Provide data technical support to Exploration Geologists and other users
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and performance feedback to team members, fostering professional growth and skills development.
- Oversee adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain and develop relationships with stakeholders in LMC’s mining activities, consistent with Barricks’s community Relations Policies
- Ensure effective communication with delegate prior departure from site
Qualifications or requirements
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:
- Full Grade Twelve (12) School Certificate
- Bachelor of Science in Geology or equivalent
- Must be a member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ), Geological Society of Zambia (GSZ) or equivalent
- Proficient in Data Analysis, with experience in managing large geological datasets
- Advanced computer skills with the ability to use integrated management systems, word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet applications
- Knowledge of QA/QC procedures and its implementation
- Knowledge of sampling and splitting procedures
- Knowledge of Microsoft Access and any other SQL Server based relational databases will be an added advantage
Experience needed
- Minimum four (4) years’ experience in a similar role
- Experience with ArcGIS, QAQCR, Datashed, acQuire, ioGAS and Leapfrog considered favorably
- Prior experience with Datashed or acQuire for data validation and administration
- Experience with ArcGIS, QAQCR, Datashed, acQuire, ioGAS and Leapfrog considered favourably
