StrongMinds Zambia (SMZ) is a non-governmental organisation providing scalable, community- and school-based solutions to close the mental health treatment gap in Zambia. Founded in 2019, we provide free, community-based group talk therapy (IPT-G) to treat depression to everyone that needs it most. Our model uses trained local health workers to deliver culturally relevant care through partnerships with the Government of Zambia, significantly reducing symptoms and improving lives. Job Title: Driver and Logistics Officer

Line Manager/ Supervisor: Finance and Administration Manager (FAM)

Duty Station: Kabwe, Zambia.

Job Purpose/ Position Summary

The Driver is responsible for providing safe, reliable, and efficient transportation services for Strong Minds Zambia (SMZ). The role involves driving SMZ vehicles, transporting staff, goods, and documents to designated destinations, and ensuring the proper care, security, and maintenance of assigned vehicles in accordance with SMZ policies and procedures.

The Driver may also be required to support the Finance and Administration team with basic logistics and administrative tasks as needed.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Safely transport SMZ staff, documents, goods and authorised passengers to designated destinations in accordance with SMZ policies, Fleet Management guidelines and applicable traffic regulations.
  • Maintain the assigned vehicle in a clean, safe, secure and roadworthy condition, including regular cleaning, fuelling, servicing, preventive maintenance and minor repairs where possible.
  • Conduct routine pre-trip vehicle checks, including checking oil, water, brake fluid, fan belt tension, tyres and other essential components, and ensure that vehicle tools, spare wheel and emergency spares are available and in good condition.
  • Ensure the safety of passengers and the vehicle at all times by enforcing the use of seat belts, prohibiting smoking in the vehicle and ensuring that no alcohol is consumed before or during driving.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date vehicle records, including logbooks, mileage, fuel usage, trip authorisations, vehicle movements, maintenance records and other required reports.
  • Ensure vehicle insurance, licences, road tax, fitness certificates, registration and other statutory requirements are valid and renewed on time in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Ensure maximum security of the vehicle and its accessories and ensure that the vehicle is parked only in authorised and appropriate areas to avoid theft, damage or towing.
  • Promptly report vehicle defects, accidents, damages, maintenance needs, traffic incidents and other concerns to the Line Manager, and advise on potential breaches of traffic regulations where necessary.
  • Support the Finance and Administration team with logistics, transportation and basic administrative tasks as assigned, including maintaining an organised vehicle travel schedule.
  • Ensure compliance with SMZ policies and procedures, including Fleet Management, Safeguarding/Child Protection and Code of Conduct requirements.

Educational Qualifications

  • Minimum Grade 12 Certificate or equivalent.
  • Valid Zambia Driving License – Class B minimum.
  • A Zambia Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (ZCILT) certificate will be an added advantage.
  • A certificate in Basic Motor Vehicle Mechanics/Vehicle Maintenance will be an added advantage.

Experience & Competencies

  • Minimum 2 years’ relevant driving experience, preferably with a recognized organization/company.
  • Good knowledge of Zambian traffic laws, road safety and basic vehicle maintenance.
  • Good communication, time management and organizational skills.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
  • Ability to use GPS/maps and maintain accurate vehicle records.
  • High level of integrity, reliability and professionalism.
  • Flexible and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and outside normal working hours when required.
