About the Electrical Engineer Role

The Electrical Engineer will play a pivotal role in managing and executing electrical and substation projects up to 130KV. This position involves hands-on supervision of installation, commissioning, and maintenance activities, ensuring projects meet technical, quality, and safety standards. The successful candidate will coordinate closely with clients, contractors, and internal teams to deliver projects on schedule and within budget.

Key Responsibilities for Electrical Engineer Jobs in Lusaka

  • Implement and monitor project management activities on site, including electrical, mechanical, and civil works according to project schedules.
  • Supervise erection and commissioning of 33KV lines and substations up to 132KV, including new installations and augmentation works.
  • Install and commission equipment such as power transformers, switchgear (330kV, 220kV, 132kV, 33kV, 11kV), automatic voltage regulators, and metering devices.
  • Conduct relay testing and configuration using ABB REF 615, Schneider & Areva P111, VAMP 257, VAMP 265, and software tools including Micom Studio, Vampset, and PCM 600.
  • Review and interpret electrical drawings, single line diagrams, RMUs, schematics, and layouts prior to execution.
  • Oversee cable laying, termination, earthing, panel alignment, and testing activities to ensure compliance with technical specifications.
  • Prepare site execution plans, daily and weekly progress reports, and status updates for stakeholders.
  • Support billing submissions, certification follow-ups, payment coordination, and material reconciliation post-project completion.
  • Lead and supervise engineers, supervisors, technicians, and workmen on site, resolving technical and operational challenges efficiently.

Candidate Profile and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum five years of relevant experience, particularly in electrical and substation projects.
  • Proven hands-on experience with substation projects up to 130KV and related equipment installation.
  • Familiarity with relay panels, SCADA systems, and relay testing methodologies.
  • Strong client coordination and contractor management skills.
  • Knowledge of billing processes, material management, and project reporting.
  • Ability to design and maintain 33KV, 11KV, and 440V ring main systems.
  • Willingness to relocate to Lusaka, Zambia.
