As our electrician we expect you to repair, maintain, and install wiring, motors, transformers, generators, lighting, appliances, circuits, wiring, and other electrical systems in our factory and generally around our plant and support buildings in compliance with electrical codes, standards, and regulations.

Responsibilities or duties

You will need to operate a variety of electrical testing equipment and be able to locate and determine all of our electrical malfunctions. You will need to read plans, drawings, specifications, and work orders to determine work requirement and sequence of repairs and/or installations.

You will at times be working and maintaining high voltage systems. You will require knowledge of the tools, equipment, and materials common to the electrical trade, applicable electrical codes, standards, and regulations and have knowledge of electrical application for high and low voltage electric systems.

We expect you to be skilled in the installation, repair and maintenance of all types of electrical system equipment and components and you will require both verbal and written communication skills.

You will be expected to assign and inspect work to your electrician assistants and initiates corrective actions to secure satisfactory standards and timely project completion. You are expected to prepare plans and develop work schedules, equipment usage schedules, and procedures for equipment maintenance and adhere to all maintenance schedules.

You will be required to determine material and labour estimates and assists in performance evaluation processes.

You will prepare and work with blueprints of the electrical systems in our factory, office buildings, homes, and other structures. These blueprints should indicate the locations of circuits, outlets, load centres, panel boards, and other equipment. You must follow the National Electric Code and comply with government and local building codes when you install these systems.

You will be required to run conduit (pipe or tubing) inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas. You will fasten to the walls all switch boxes that will house electrical switches and outlets. You will pull insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits between these boxes.

Regardless of the type of wire used, you will need to connect it to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components. You will use the correct specially designed connectors. You will be required to ensure that all connections are surely connected and there is no danger of shorting. You will need to ensure that all earthing is done correctly and that there is no danger of electrocution.

After you finish the wiring, they use testing equipment, such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to check the circuits for proper connections, ensuring electrical compatibility and safety of components.

In addition to wiring a building's electrical system, you may assist to install cables for computers and other telecommunications equipment.

You will also need to become fully conversant with all our factory and workshop equipment and you will be required to connect motors to electrical power and install electronic controls for industrial equipment.

You will need to spend much of your time in preventive maintenance. You will regularly need to inspect equipment, and locate and correct problems before breakdowns occur.

You may also advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.

When breakdowns occur, they must make the necessary repairs as quickly as possible in order to minimize inconvenience.

You will be required to ensure that the generators are fuelled and functional at all times.

When the job is too complicated you will need to do research and ask advice from engineers, engineering technicians, or industrial machinery installation, repair, and maintenance workers.

You will use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, knives, and hacksaws. They also use power tools and testing equipment such as oscilloscopes, ammeters, and test lamps.

You are responsible for correct disposal and storage of potential pollutants such as used oil, grease, papers, scrap metal empty boxes saw dust and any other waste as may come from your work.

You will be expected to keep a clean and well labelled system.

You are responsible for keeping your workshop and its surrounding as neat, tidy and organized as possible so that you are able to function as efficiently as possible

Any other job related tasks assigned to you by your supervisor.
