About the Role

As an Electronic Technician, you will be responsible for executing high-level diagnostics and repairs on engines ranging from 500kW to 3300kW. You will work both independently and collaboratively, ensuring high accuracy and strict adherence to safety standards while delivering professional service onsite. Travel across sub-Saharan Africa will be required to support customer needs.

Key Responsibilities for Electronic Technician Jobs in Kalumbila

  • Perform maintenance and fault finding on MTU engines and associated electronic/mechanical systems at customer sites to the highest standards.
  • Manage electrical interfacing between MTU engines and various applications such as dump trucks, excavators, locomotives, and gensets.
  • Carry out wiring of control panels, route harnesses, and mount interface modules and body solenoids.
  • Analyze and resolve mechanical, electrical, or electronic system failures; document findings and solutions in detailed reports.
  • Conduct commissioning activities including engine parameter tuning, wiring verification, startup procedures, and data recording.
  • Comply with MTU standards, ISO 9001, 17001, 18001, and OHS (VAZA005) safety regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Report incidents, near misses, and additional work requirements promptly to supervisors for customer engagement and service improvement.
  • Ensure proper handling and reporting of special tools and equipment.
  • Assist technical staff in the field and complete all required job, travel, and warranty reports accurately and timely.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum GCE Levels with an Advanced Diploma or Crafts Certificate in Electrical Engineering or Electronics; a degree is advantageous.
  • Specialized training on OEM equipment and troubleshooting is preferred.
  • Membership with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) and a valid practicing license are mandatory.
  • At least 5 years of experience in electrical installations, maintenance, and fault finding within industrial or commercial environments.

Required Competencies

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Accountability and energy to meet job demands.
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to health and safety standards.
  • Effective problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities.

Quality and Documentation

You will be expected to operate within the company’s Total Quality Management framework, ensuring all services are documented through field service reports signed by site representatives. This documentation serves as proof of delivery and is critical to maintaining quality assurance standards.
