The Endoscopist is a highly skilled medical specialist responsible for performing diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures within the gastrointestinal (GI) tract and potentially other systems (e.g., respiratory, urinary) at International Hospitals Zambia (IHZ).

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Patient Consultation & Assessment:

• Conduct comprehensive pre-procedural assessments, reviewing patient history, indications for endoscopy, and potential risks.
• Obtain informed consent from patients after clearly explaining procedures, risks, benefits, and alternative options.

Endoscopic Procedures:

• Perform a wide range of endoscopic procedures, including but not limited to: upper endoscopy (EGD), colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, and potentially advanced procedures such as ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde
• Safely administer conscious sedation or collaborate closely with anesthesiologists during procedures.
• Perform therapeutic interventions as needed, such as controlling bleeding, removing foreign bodies, dilating strictures, or placing feeding tubes/stents

Qualifications and Requirements

Education:

• Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) or equivalent medical degree.
• Postgraduate specialization in Gastroenterology, Internal Medicine, or General Surgery with specific certification or fellowship training in endoscopy.

Registration & Licensing:

• Must possess full registration and a valid specialist practicing license from the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ).

Experience:

• A minimum of 3 years of post-specialization experience as an endoscopist is typically required, with a proven track record of competency and safe practice.
• Documented evidence of procedure volumes and competency in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy.
