About ZANEC

ZANEC is a coalition of 97 NGOs, teacher unions, FBOs, CBOs, and CSOs that advocate for quality and equitable education for all in Zambia. As the leading civil society voice on education policy, we influence national education policies, strategies, and budgets.

The Role

Reporting to the Board Chair, you will lead ZANEC’s Secretariat and drive our national advocacy agenda. You’ll set strategic direction, grow our coalition’s influence, and ensure financial sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Strategic Leadership: Shape ZANEC’s advocacy on education policy, financing, equity, and quality. Lead annual planning and impact reporting.
  2. Coalition Building: Strengthen member engagement and coordinate joint campaigns across diverse civil society actors.
  3. Resource Mobilisation: Secure and manage grants from bilateral, multilateral, and foundation donors. Lead proposal development.
  4. External Relations: Represent ZANEC with government ministries, donors, regional and global networks.
  5. Organisational Oversight: Manage Secretariat staff, finances, compliance, and Board governance.

Qualifications

  1. Master’s in Education, Social Sciences, or Development Studies.
  2. 5+ years of senior NGO leadership with evidence-based advocacy and coalition experience.
  3. Demonstrated success in raising funding from diverse donors.
  4. Deep understanding of Zambia’s education sector: policy, equity, financing, and research.
  5. Proven ability to influence senior government and donor officials.
  6. Strong team leadership, member coordination, and communication skills.
