Financial Controller
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller plays a critical role in the success of our operational accounting and ability to achieve our vision. The Controller must be a hands-on, participatory manager able to lead the Finance and Accounting team by bringing a successful track record in setting priorities, establishing, and holding reports to Key Performance Metrics as well as having excellent analytic, organization, and communication skills.
Job Responsibilities:
The Controller will be responsible for managing all financial activities of the organization, ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulatory requirements, and providing strategic financial guidance to senior management. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, financial management, and leadership, with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to accuracy and integrity.
Key areas of responsibility:
- Financial Management
- Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, reports, and budgets to provide timely and accurate information to senior management and stakeholders.
- Monitor cash flow, investment activities, and financial performance to identify areas for improvement and recommend solutions.
- Accounting Operations
- Manage day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities.
- Ensure timely and accurate recording of financial transactions, reconciliations, and closing processes.
- Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors to facilitate annual audits and tax filings.
- Budgeting and Forecasting
- Lead the annual budgeting process, working closely with department heads to develop realistic budgets and forecasts.
- Monitor budget variances and provide analysis and recommendations to management to support decision-making.
- Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, tax regulations, and legal requirements.
- Identify and mitigate financial risks through effective risk management strategies and internal controls.
- Financial Analysis and Reporting
- Conduct financial analysis, trend analysis, and variance analysis to assess financial performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Prepare financial reports, presentations, and dashboards for senior management, board of directors, and external stakeholders.
- Strategic Planning
- Provide strategic financial guidance and support to senior management in decision-making, planning, and resource allocation.
- Evaluate investment opportunities, capital projects, and strategic initiatives to assess their financial feasibility and impact on the organization.
- Team Leadership and Development
- Supervise and mentor finance and accounting staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
- Develop and implement training programs to enhance staff skills and competencies in financial management and accounting.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- ZICA, ACCA, CIMA qualification or equivalent
- At least 5 years of experience in a similar role
- Experience in agribusiness an added advantage
