JOB DETAILS:
• Job Purpose
The General Manager will provide overall management of the technical and administrative functions of the company to ensure viable and profitable operations. Establish the necessary procedures and policies for all general management and administrative functions and provide advice and guidance to plant personnel on the technical operations of the blending plant. Implement the acquisition by lease or purchase by the company of real property, houses or other fixed assets such as items of machinery, motor vehicles and pieces of equipment, after approval by the Board of Directors.

Summary of Key Responsibilities;
• Ensure the Quality Policy is implemented, and the Mission Statement and Quality Objectives are attained.
• Arrange for and approve all borrowings on behalf of the Blending Company from banks, other lending institutions or other corporations located inside and outside the Republic of Zambia within the borrowing limits set by the shareholders.
• Establish on behalf of the blending company, any and all lines of credit or overdraft facilities with banks, other lending institutions or other corporations located inside and outside the Republic of Zambia within the limits of borrowing set by the Shareholders.
• Prepare an annual capital budget for submission to the Board of Directors of the Blending company for their approval, and to prepare and present Quarterly Management Reports to the Board.
• Responsible for implementing approved Company budget, and overall control of all company assets.
• Approve capital expenditure from the capital budget as adopted by the Board of Directors of the Blending Company.
• Approve all leases by the Blending Company of all real property, or major items of machinery and equipment owned by it including buildings, houses and motor vehicles after approval by the Board of Directors.
• Approve, after consultation with the Board of Directors of the Blending Company, any sale, mortgage or other encumbrance or disposal of any kind or real property or fixed assets of the company which do not require the approval of the shareholders.
• Approve any insurance contracts, plans, policies for or on behalf of the company or its employees.
• Enter into any other contracts for goods or services which relate to the business of the company.
• Supervise the entire workforce, establish staffing levels, and recruit and train personnel in accordance with existing company policy on Manpower Development and Training.
• Approve the appointment of agents or representatives of the Blending Company subject to consultation with the Board of Directors.
• Negotiate on behalf of the company the controls relating to the blending of lubricants in consultation with the Board and the Marketing Participants.
• Supervise Internal and External Quality Audits to ensure compliance and adherence to Quality Management System requirements.
• Any other duties as assigned by the Board.

Primary Areas of Accountability:
Qualifications and Experience
• Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
• A Masters in the any of above fields will be a plus
• Must have at least minimum of 8-10 years working experience in Chemical
Engineering with a bias towards Oil Blending or related
• Must have a minimum of 3-5 years in a Senior Management position in a related industrial establishment.
• Ability to operate some plant/laboratory equipment/instruments is
desirable in order to provide the necessary guidance to plant workers
• Must have commercial flair and a proven ability to develop new business
and able to develop close relationships with key clients at all levels.
• Ability to prepare, analyses and interpret technical reports, and to some degree interpret financial statements
• Proven ability of leading and mentoring successful teams.
• Adequate scientific, technical and managerial background necessary to
ensure problems of technical or administrative nature are solved within
the framework of the company’s policies and procedures.
• Must be a member of a relevant professional bod (i.e. EIZ or ERB)
