Lead the Personal and Private Banking (PPB) Credit function by overseeing credit evaluation, risk management, governance, portfolio management, project execution, cost management, and people leadership. Responsible for maintaining portfolio quality, reducing credit losses, ensuring compliance, and supporting digital credit transformation initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Credit Evaluation and Approval: Build efficient credit evaluation processes between Business and Credit. Coach Credit Evaluation Managers on origination and communication. Assess applications and issue sanction letters. Approve lending applications above delegated authority levels. Review applications involving Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs) and high-risk industries. Ensure Credit Evaluation Managers operate within delegated authority limits. Monitor adherence to turnaround time (TAT) targets. Support automated credit processes, digital lending, and data-driven credit decisions.
  • Risk Management: Ensure validity, enforceability, and proper custody of collateral and legal documentation. Maintain controls over advance administration and credit procedures. Manage credit control events and defaults. Reduce migration of non-performing loans into lock-up portfolios. Ensure timely credit decisions within agreed SLAs. Monitor credit lifecycle metrics across origination, evaluation, monitoring, rehabilitation, and recoveries. Guide teams on best credit practices.
  • Risk Appetite Management: Identify shifts in key risk parameters. Review and establish PPB risk appetite metrics with business units. Monitor portfolio performance against risk appetite triggers. Review credit criteria against portfolio performance. Deliver predictable credit losses within approved cost-of-credit budgets.
  • Governance, Risk and Compliance: Interpret PPB Risk Appetite (ROA) strategy and localize implementation. Ensure compliance with policies, standards, mandates, and procedures. Participate in Credit Risk Management Committee and Watchlist Committee meetings. Contribute to portfolio management, collections strategy, and risk appetite discussions. Attend and occasionally chair Country Credit MANCO meetings. Represent PPB Credit on all credit matters.
  • People Management: Manage performance of Credit Unit Heads and direct reports. Identify training needs and secure training resources. Lead, motivate, and inspire teams. Recruit, develop, and retain talent. Conduct competency assessments and skills development. Build organizational capability and succession pipelines. Promote learning and development culture. Delegate authority effectively. Resolve team issues and maintain communication channels. Implement talent reviews and succession planning. Ensure staff recognition and reward programs.
  • Project and Portfolio Management: Determine project tasks and allocate resources. Ensure project team orientation and onboarding. Monitor project progress and make necessary adjustments. Deliver projects on time, within budget, and to quality standards. Calculate and manage full cost of credit. Implement cost containment measures. Ensure accurate internal and external reporting. Provide portfolio insights and management information.
  • Cost Management: Manage PPB Credit Department costs within approved budgets.

  • Credit Evaluation: Good quality asset book, Asset growth, Reduced PPB credit losses, Pre-impaired and impaired portfolio within budget.
  • Risk Management: Minimized losses within budget, SLA compliance, Effective second-line defense, Positive stakeholder satisfaction ratings.
  • Risk Appetite: Risk appetite framework documented, Continuous monitoring evidence, Remedial action for breaches.
  • Governance: Positive internal and external audit ratings, Successful Head Office capability reviews (CART), Policy compliance.
  • People Management: Strong staff engagement scores, Training programs addressing skill gaps, Succession plans for key roles.
  • Project Management: Projects delivered within timelines, Cost of credit targets achieved, Accurate and timely reporting.

  • Minimum: First Degree in Business Commerce or related field.
